White jasmine rice good or bad for you?
I decided to mix up my lunch. Instead of eating tuna and baked chips, I ate grilled chicken and white jasmine rice. Is white jasmine rice healthy for you or not I.e. Too many carbs?

What tips help you keep the weight off?
For example, I don't do one large weekly grocery trip. I might go to the store two or three times a week. If I did a whole trip, then it would be too tempting to eat more.

Leftover calories
I am modifying my eating habits so that I rollover unused calories onto the weekend where I know I will eat a lot more than I would during the week. I managed to have 300 calories that I could have, but did not use over the weekend. What should I do with the extra 300 calories? Should I forget about it or should I rollover…
-
Weekly calorie counting instead of daily?
My goal is to lose weight. I try to consume about 1850 calories per day though on most days that is too much. Instead, I "rollover" leftover calories onto the next day. By the weekend, I have about 5000 calories leftover including calories that I burned at the gym. This also gives me a limit of how many calories I can eat.…

Need some low-maintenance lunch ideas for work
I am starting an office job this week and have 30 minutes for lunch (though I can snack if I need to). I don't have time to make fancy meals but I am not going to bring in McDonald's either. What are some simple, low-calorie lunch or snack ideas that will get me through the day without feeling hungry? I would like to keep…

Anaerobic vs aerobic
I understand the difference but I don't understand why aerobic is consider better than anaerobic. If weight loss is simply burning more calories than burned, then anaerobic should be the better exercise in terms of time. If I do anaerobic work like HIIT at the gym, I can burn upwards of 500 calories in 30-some minutes. It…

What a week's difference makes in changing eating habits
Before I was consuming about 16000 calories a week. I'm trying to cut down to about 14500 a week. What I noticed is that by having fruits and veggies and cold drinks (like Vitamin Water Zero) accessible somehow diminishes my appetite. For example, if I want to eat, then I reach for some grapes instead. A few grapes fill me…

My new plan
After a not-so-good doctor's visit, I need to revamp my dieting. I was consuming 16100 calories a week (I found it easier to do it weekly) and hitting the gym 4x a week and burning 550 calories per sessions. I need to cut more calories. I decided to go down to 1000 M-F BUT allow myself to fill up on fruits and veggies…

Had my yearly physical today
My cholesterol dropped 30 pts but I had gained 16 pounds. My doctor said it was odd but that the weight gain was not good weight gain. He said it's not muscle, water retention, etc. It's fat. . He suggested that the weight gain was from being bored and I think it's true. It was certainly a wake up call. He suggested that…

Gaining weight after physically intense week?
This week, I added a couple of exercises to my four-day-a-week workout routine and increased the intensity level. Also, on Monday, I went on a five-mile hike which I am still recovering from (LOL) because there were a lot of hills that had to be climbed. I did comp for the hike, but otherwise I have been within my weekly…

Anyone struggle with weight when not working?
I am off of work for awhile but I noticed that when I was working, my weight was plummeting. I am waiting to go back to work so I've been home most of the time. I do my normal workout and calorie restriction but it's been a battle to lose weight. I actually put in an extra day at the gym in hopes of balancing things out.

Using heart rate in workouts
I'm 5'9, 194lb 33 year old male. I want to lose 20 pounds or about 1 pound per week. I go to the gym 4x. When I work out, I usually stick to biking, TRX and core exercises. Recently, I got a heart rate monitor and spend about 45 minutes working over 70% of my maximum heart rate. I consume about 16100 calories a week.…

Discrepancies in how many calories i should consume
I am aiming to lose 1 pound per week. I am 5 foot 9 195 pounds and 33 years old. I have seen many discrepancies in how many calories I should consume a day. Would someone lose weight if they ate fewer calories but they ate nothing but ice cream and soda?

Dents appearing on stomach
Ever since I severely injured my ankle, I've been doing 45 minutes of intense anaerobic exercise. I noticed that I am getting these little "dents" or "folds" on my stomach. Is that a result of toning or something else? Also, when I look at myself in the mirror from afar, I have a pretty nice body but up close, I still look…

Monitoring calories- any one tried this?
According to myfitnesspal, I can consume 2020 calories a day to lose 1 pound per week. That is 14140 per week. I routinely work out 4x a week and I estimate I burn about 2200 calories. That means I can consume about 16340 a week and lose 1 pound a day. Just to be on the safe side, I subtracted 1750 calories (or…

Target heart rate
My maximum heart rate is 187 and I typically workout anywhere from 130-160. I intentionally try to stay within the aerobic zone because my PT said that it is more effective and efficient in losing weight. What I noticed is that, obviously, I am not as fatigued as I would be when I would workout closer to the anaerobic…

Benefits of saunas?
Are there any benefits to using a sauna? I have a dry hot room at my gym that I usually go into after a workout. That is where I do, for a lack of a better word, my cool down. I read that it helps your skin. The hot room is usually 140F.

Have you ever 'started over' with your fitness plan?
I've been thrown off of my normal routine due to being off of work for three weeks. I ended up eating more than I normally should. However, it gave me time to think about how I can cut calories from my diet without starving myself. I've found that it would be easier to start all over again which would include erasing the…

Battling boredom and discipline
Long story short, I give myself cheat days on the weekend. During the week, I have a set routine of going to the gym, work and taking care of business. I've had the last three weeks off from work (and I am NOT complaining) but it has been challenging not giving into cheat days during the week. My weight has not gone up and…

Anaerobic vs aerobic
How do they differ in terms of how they affect the body? For example, my PT said that I should strive to keep my HR in an aerobic zone because if I work out in an anaerobic zone, then I will hit a 'wall.' What are the pros and cons of working out in each zone and what is more efficient in caloric burn?

Burning 4000 calories a day?
I decided to wear my heart rate monitor all day. It also shows you how many calories you've burned. At 8AM, I went to the gym. At 9AM, I left the gym and my HRM said I burned 800 calories. At 12:30PM, my HRM said that I have burned 1350 calories. My heart rate is 77BPM. According to my math, I am burning 3 calories every…
-
What would you make of this?
I took a gym break and during that break, I ate pretty bad. I calculated that I consumed a net plus 6000 more calories over the weekend. However, when I weighed myself, I am roughly the same usually weight at the start of the week. I am not complaining but wondering what is going on.

Fitbit calories burned
I bought a fitbit watch and used it at the gym today. I was shocked to see that 45 minutes of TRX burned 600 calories. Honestly, I thought it would be less. How accurate do you think fitbit it?

Doubling time in gym
If you know you will not have time to do your normal daily workout, do you double up on your workout? For example, I workout four times a week for about 45 minutes doing TRX. I may not be able to do four days this week but thought about putting in extra time in the gym to 'make up' for the time that I will miss. I know…
-
Burning more calories than I count?
I try to consume about 14,000 calories a week or about 2000 a day. I noticed that I have gone over as much as 3,000 calories per week yet I weigh the same. I do factor in estimated amounts of calories burned at the gym. I'm down 2 pounds though so obviously something is working. How do I accurately figure out how many…

Opinion about this weight loss strategy
1. Calculate weekly calorie intake to lose a certain amount of weight per week. 2. Ration those calories and rollover unused calories to the weekend. 3. "Overeat" on the weekend yet do not go over allocated calories. "Overeating" will create a feeling of almost being repulsed by food which will prevent binging at the start…

What are some good heart rate/calorie fitness devices?
I am looking for a device that would calculate how many calories I burn throughout the day. The catch is that when I go to the gym, I do TRX and weight training so the device should be able to calculate that as well. I would like a device that monitor my heart rate too. I know about polar and fitbit but there are so many…

Cravin sugar day after intense workout? Good or bad?
Yesterday, I put in a double workout because I wasn't going to be able to workout today. I did a lot of TRX, weight training and cycling. Today, I am craving sugar. Usually when I crave sugar and I give in, I end up losing weight. Is this good or bad?
