Lifting weights and low protein
Normally I used to be high fat and moderate protein, but recently due to health reasons my diet has changed. Hopefully I can go back to eating more foods but for now I'm vegetables, roots, fruit, nuts and seeds, and wild caught seafood. My protein levels are much lower than usual. Because of pain I stopped lifting quite a…

Fitbit with chest strap
I searched but couldn't find what I was looking for. Do any of you know if you buy a cheap Fitbit flex can you use a chest strap HR monitor with it? I was thinking of the Fitbit charge but I've read that walking and running is really the only kind of accurate reading, if you lift or do heavy cardio it's way off. I was also…

Squat form
Hi all! I know there are a ton of threads about squat form, but I really need help. If any of you remember me from about 6 months ago, I was really having issues with squat form. Basically I can't keep my heels on the ground unless my feet are pretty far apart and my toes are pointed out. I've been doing a lot of…

February 8th check in
Good morning! So this kind of stinks, but I started taking a medication that caused me to gain weight and retain water last time I was on it. I rarely take meds but I tried every herb and remedy I could get my hands on. Anyway, the good news is it is working (I'm producing more milk for my son) but the downside is I gained…

January 4 weigh in
Happy 2014! I guess I'm the first one to post today. Week 1 - 174.8 Week 2 - 175.2 Week 3 - 174.6 Down .2 pounds. I did go over NYs eve, but overall my calories have been lower every other day this week. A lot lower than what I went over. I think I'm retaining water so hopefully next week will be better.

Low calorie Apple Chicken Casserole
I kind of made this up a few months ago. Every time I do it slightly different (use more/less oil, more veggies, etc), but every time it is generally under 1 calorie per gram (the one I made tonight was 392 calories for 400 grams. Yours will depend on what ingredients you use as everything can very so much. I also make it…

Toe walker and squats
Anybody out there a toe walker and have issues keeping your heels on the floor for weighted (or body weight) squats? If so, what stretches/exercises did you do so you could do a proper squat? How long did it take for you to be able to do a proper squat? I'm doing the SL 5x5 program and can't do a proper squat. If I point…

Squat help
I was wondering if your bum was supposed to be sore after doing squats? I feel it in my thighs mostly. I'm wondering if it's because my form is wrong? I already posted a video, and my husband has taken more, but they aren't a huge improvement. Here are the problems I'm having: 1. Pitching forward at the bottom of the squat…

SL 5x5 app
I heard there is a SL 5x5 app but I can't seem to find it. I am not sure if it isn't on the Android market or what. Are there any other apps you like to use to log your workouts? Something that doesn't take forever to navigate and is easy to use.

Help with calories and lifting heavy
Right now my calories are 2,000 and that includes breastfeeding 4-5 times a day and 30 Day Shred. I have 2 days of Shred left and I am gathering equipment to start the SL 5x5 program. Should I keep my calories the same? I'm not sure how much you burn when lifting but I have read a lot of people eat a bit more because your…

Beginner questions
Hello, I am new to lifting, so completely green. Right now I have a friend's Olympic bar and a couple 2.5 and 5 lb weights to go with it. My husband's friend who lent me the bar/weights thinks this will be enough for me, but I'm not so sure. I know I will be starting out with just the bar to learn form, but for things like…

Anybody use non Olympic bar/weights?
I'm looking to build a home gym so I can start SL at home. I'm trying to find used equipment and an Olympic size bar and weights with 2 inch holes are hard to find. If I have to I will buy them new but I'm hoping I don't have to. As it is I think I will need to buy a squat rack new as I can't find one of those either.

SL 5x5 equipment
I am interested in starting the SL 5x5 program, but I have some questions. I have been looking into gyms, and cost is a factor. I cannot or won't pay $50+ a month. One gym I found says "STRENGTH TRAINING: free weights (5 lbs- 160 lbs), barbells, power rack". Great because some places don't have power racks. I'm thinking a…

Protein shake or powder without artificial ingredients
I'm looking for a good tasting way to add protein to my diet. Especially for times when I don't have a lot of time. I have sensitivities to soy and artificial flavourings, so I find it hard to find a good protein source. I have been adding chia seeds to my morning oatmeal (need the daily oats for milk production) but they…

Lifting heavy and trying to conceive
I am going in to a couple gyms next week to see what kind of equipment they have and costs, etc. The only reason I would be going is because I am interested in learning to lift heavy. I would like to try the SL5x5 and get some training on form. Then hopefully in another year I can buy some of my own equipment. But I was…

Women who lift
Is strength training and lifting the same thing or different? I see posts all the time about lifting, and I know it means using weights, but I wasn't sure if there were different classes. I am trying to burn fat and get stronger and leaner. I am thinking mixing in some lifting would help me in this. I was looking around…

IT band injury?
Can anybody tell me if the IT band can be injured by doing exercises in the 30ds? I started having some pretty bad knee pain on impact around day 5 of level 1. I did post about it in another thread. I was modifying some of the moves and I thought maybe it would be OK. I am pretty stubborn and I always feel like I should…

Knee pain
Hello. I have been doing the 30ds and currently on level 1 day 7. Around day 5 I noticed doing side lunges my knees really hurt, mostly my right knee. Then when I did day 6 I couldn't do jumping jacks or jump rope. The impact was pretty painful. So I did butt kicks and moved my arms instead. For some reason putting weight…

Please help me figure out deficit
Hello, I have only been back to counting my calories with MFP for 10 days, but I am still steadily gaining weight. First off I had a baby October 31 last year and was 198 when I gave birth. I went down to 165 within a month of having him (I am 185 now). A few months later I started to gain it back. I was still…

Calories and breastfeeding
How do I figure out how many calories I should be eating while breastfeeding? I am looking to lose weight. My son is 10 months old and nurses 4-5 times a day (10-15 minutes each). I have extremely low milk supply and have noticed that what I eat effects my supply. I was on a medication to increase my supply and I was…

Hello!
Hi! I am Carrie and I have been using MFP to try to keep track of my calories because I eat too few. I have been eating every 2-3 hours the past couple months and eating almost double calories, so it is working. Although I am not loosing any weight, which I was hoping to do. Anyway I just wanted to say hi. :D

Help with calorie intake please
Hello, I am a newbie here. I have read many threads on too few calories and got lots of great tips, but I worry I am still not eating right. First off I will tell you a bit about my eating habits. For the past few years I have been eating way too few calories (between 400-800/day) and only eating one big meal and not…
