I do most of my exercise on the elliptical in my living room while my road bike sits right there next to me neglected. I needed a reason to get back out on the road and just found this thread I've been having some back problems but I'm going to take a stab at a goal and shoot for 50 miles this month.3

New here, I run but I recently purchased a road bike
Still learning everything, a week ago I did 25 miles on hills and had so much fun, but since then it has been raining every damned day
And more to come all this week so not sure what I'll do, my goal is 100 miles per week initially but really depends on the weather for now3 -

Target for February is 700KM. It will be a challenge as I'm away with work quite a bit.
Got a good start last week and clocked in 212KM, all on Zwift. My target this weekend is to actually get out of the house on my bike.
Wishing everyone best of luck with their targets for February.1 -

Up Mt Wellington
My husband and I cycled up Mt Wellington on Sunday ... 73.4 km with 1636 metres (5367.45 feet) straight up the side of the mountain. Not an easy ride!!
We started with a 10% climb out of our suburb, and set of rolling hills, and then the real climbing began. Climbing from 8 km to 39.6 km ... there's even an HC category climb in the middle.
I was doing all right at first, all the way to Fern Tree (about 29 km into the ride), and then there's a turnoff for the main part of the climb to Mt Wellington, and it's steep in the first kilometre or so, reaching 17% at one point. With what strength I had, I kind of chuckled when I heard the kookaburra start up in the tree next to the road. Isn't that the way, just when I'm dying on a climb that bird had to start laughing at me!
It kind of eases off a bit at The Springs, and then goes into a long and steady climb of about 9%. That's when my lower back and right hip started giving me trouble. I also kept wishing for an easier gear ... one gear easier is all I wanted ... but one gear easier is not what I had, and no amount of wishing magically conjured one up.
3 km from the top it eases slightly ... to only about 6% or so.
Tired, and with various and sundry aches and pains ... we successfully made it to the top!!
And then the descent.
I find descents quite challenging ... as do my poor brakes ... but we made it down and faster than the last time we did it.
We weren't sure about the weather. All week, the forecast had been iffy for Sunday and even earlier in the morning it had rained and they were indicating strong winds on top of the mountain. However, fortunately the wind wasn't a factor on this ride. It wasn't bad at all. And although it was cloudy, we didn't get any rain until we were nearly home, and then only just a little. About half an hour later it really started coming down.
But one interesting thing was watching the fog come up over the Derwent and bay from above ... it rose as we descended until we were among it at one point. Mist hanging in the trees just above us.

Been a lifetime cyclist, including a Cat 3 racer in the 70's and 80's (yep I am an old geezer) and have completed the Ironman triathlon 3 times. Currently I do about 5 hours of spin classes per week. Once the springtime arrives, I'll be out on the trails on the mountain bike. I gave up road riding 3 years ago when I hit 65. There comes a time in your life when the traffic starts to scare you a bit more than usual, and that was it for me. I'm good with it though, I love mountain biking! I'll go with my usual 20 hours per month of spinning for now, until the MTB comes out.2

@Machka9 Amazing, amazing, amazing!!
That descent probably would have terrified me.
Thanks for sharing.0 -
Only did half an hour on the recumbent exercycle this past week. I’m starting out cautiously because of my lower back problem but I hope to up the ante this coming week.1
