i think when moderators have the time to get excellent threads offline...then they have time to remove spam too.
I disagree with this. Moderators are volunteers and have lives outside of MFP. They are not all online 24/7. That said, the current system has serious flaws. Even though it "only" takes 5 flags, and there are thousands of users online at any time, it seems too few people are willing to do it. Also there should be no way a user like soniyashrama203 is still around after spamming for more than an hour. Somewhere there needs to be a setting either to limit new member posts, or to block users that have a certain number of reports. Otherwise yes, people get fed up and don't want to bother reporting.
What's frustrating for me is last fall, I reported too much spam in too short of a time - and my account was blocked! It remained that way for quite a while, and I lost all my posts both public and in private groups when they reset the account.
Then let the paid employees do it...they are around as well frequently.
And the fact you got blocked for flagging spam...because you flagged to many in a short period of time..wow.0 -
1. Mods = volunteers. I clean up spam when I have time. When I sign on, its the first thing I do.
2. This system is a lot better for spam than the previous forum.
3. We have made recommendations to improve the spam filters/reduce spam
4. MLM (such as a BB coach or Advocare rep) =/= spam. They are just violating the rules.
5. Both admins (paid MFP employees) and mods do work the spam issues.0 -

Thanks Glinda1971, there seemed to be a wave of them, hopefully they're gone now.0

Nicely put Lemon and giant thanks to all of our volunteer moderators working to remove spam from the forums.
Also giant thanks to everyone for continuing to flag spam. I know we need to do more to block the spam from being here in the first place, but the not flagging spam will only slow down our ability to remove what does get posted.0 -

This one's been lurking for several hours now and could use a few more: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10217551/when-you-choose-a-weight-loss-or-diet#latest
This one also was a bit hidden with the baba love specialist spam: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10217649/80-natural-treatments-for-acne-cure-and-prevention#latest needs a few
Plus all the love specialists need 1 or 2 more0 -

No. Increase your filters. I hope the boards get so bad and overrun with spam the admins are forced to do something about it instead of just talking about doing something about it and relying on us to keep their house uncluttered for them.0 -

I'd just like to point out that this is a member created post that has served a lot of good in the community, not a staff or mod request.
With regards to the filters, they are being changed regularly to get the best results.
The moderator team regularly check this post but we are volunteers and there are a great number of other things that we need to do on a daily basis in order to keep things running smoothly within the community.
Just because we don't always post in here doesn't mean we're not checking and removing spam.
If you just stop flagging spam, it's not gonna make it all just go away.. If there was a magic solution that worked as well as we'd like it to it would have been done by now but as it stands we all have to do our bit to make this community into the place we want it to be.
Hopefully sometime in the near future the staff team will find a good way to block the majority of it out, I know for a fact that comments and suggestions are taken on board and discussed within the staff meetings.
Now, whether you flag spam or not is your choice but we really do appreciate the efforts of all that do!
I know it can feel like a thankless task sometimes but believe me, we are so greatful for everyone that does it!
Have an awesome Friday everyone, weekend is almost upon us!

The update happened back in October, and I've seen no improvement in respect to getting a better handle on the boards being flooded with spam regularly like clockwork.
My comment wasn't directed at volunteers, it was directed to Admins who have it within their capacity to fix this problem themselves, and who evidently are not.

Although it may not seem so, there has been a great deal done in an effort to reduce spam.
This thread serves a great purpose and the people flagging and helping to remove spam on a daily basis are doing a lot of good.
Please keep this thread on topic and helpful.
If you choose not to help with flagging spam then so be it, nobody has the obligation to but coming in here and derailing this thread is an insult to those that do put time into keeping this community spam free.
If you choose not to help or contribute in a constructive way to the topic, simply move on from this thread and don't post within it.
Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Hmm, well I guess I failed to see how it was a derail, and frankly I still fail to see it. I also fail to see how my observations have insulted or disrespected anyone. But I will concede that my post was made in frustration regarding the spam, for the reasons I've already outlined.
And as you wish, I won't post in this thread again.
You too have an awesome weekend.

Kids, Kids, wake me up, I'll help!! Be happy to give a break when needed, I just seem to be at the wrong place at the wrong time lately. Guess they change times every so often. They are crafty lil 's!
We need a little bell on this thread to ring when the spammers are going wild and you need to contact me for help.
Anyhow, I'm here and I'll do what I can, I want to pay it forward what I've gotten from all you members over the years so I'm stickin around.
So I'm all in for helping out because if not, then the spam sticks around and annoys everyone and I'd rather it be a game where I catch as many as I can and myself or another spam catcher wins the closing thread flag! This could be a money maker gang!! I bet this will become a board game like Monopoly one day soon... yup... Probably should check with @Olivia or one of her cats about putting in a pre-order now before they all sell out!
Cheers for a fantastic weekend my fellow SpamBusters!!

MFP is a bit of an odd choice for skin care research though, wouldn't you say? I did flag them all - second link should be gone0

Thanks for the flags. I was hoping for some tips on what changes people have noticed with their skin as they've lost weight and how they deal with those changes. If they've had to change cleansing products, stop eating certain trigger foods, wear different fabric types, etc.
Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies, and what we eat and do for physical activities can have a big effect on it. Right now even though I'm going through a phase where it seems nothing is working, so I thought folks might have tips. Unfortunately the vast majority of the results coming up in search are just spam...so either there are loads of spammers, or not many people talk about their skin changes.

I got a couple of those and removed them in the quote. Most still need one.0
