Once I started counting calories, the days of me grabbing a Frosted Brown Sugar Pop Tart were over. I used to grab a package (2 pastries) and snack on that. Then I saw this:
Calories 420
Calories from Fat 126
Total Fat 14g
It was nice knowing ya Frosted Brown Sugar Pop Tarts lol I didn't like em THAT much.
Ha, I'm the same way. I really don't avoid any particular food, but dang those PopTarts just aren't worth it (and WHY are there TWO servings in one pouch, lol). If I've got 400+ calories to eat for snack, I'm going to make it something glorious.
I know I can make a nice, tall sammich for 420 calories. Or a big veggie filled omelet (with some cheese, too). I prefer savory treats, but I'm sure there are better sweets to be had with that budget.0 -

Hersheys. I went without it for about three months and then when I bought a bag of Kisses again they tasted too weird. Now, if I need chocolate, I get a couple squares of Ghirardelli out.

Until this thread I never realized that I haven't had honey mustard pretzel pieces, peanut butter filled pretzels and cheese doodles in 2 years!0

Snickers and a Dr. Pepper used to be a favorite breakfast of mine. I started eating better chocolate and now Snickers taste terrible to me (as do all the waxy faux chocolates). This is really helpful around Halloween and Easter because not too many people are handing out Green and Black's for me to steal from my kid's basket.0

Nothing as many others who are just cutting back on the total calories but oddly enough I don't really crave junk food like I used to. I have a bag of chips I opened 3 days ago and only have eaten 100g out of and I threw out a container of brownies after eating only two squares in two weeks. I guess it's true that after you go without junk foods for a while it's almost like getting over an addiction.0

Same here. Wife and I had a Halloween party this weekend She cooked all day for it...you name it she made it. A slew of unhealthy party foods. Next day After the party , I couldn't wait to get back to eating good healthy food. It's like my body was craving it. Small victory I think.

I abandoned nothing, because I've never been one to snack all my life. And I feel like if I omit a certain food that I like, I'll just crave it more. So all things in moderation.0

I kind of eat more desserts now than I did when I was gaining weight because I know my diet can allow it. Whereas before I'd eat a fattening high calorie lunch, not realizing just how bad it was but knowing JUST enough that it wasn't good, and then stressing about food or binging on a bag of chips on Friday night.0

I've discovered that many foods that I thought were favorites weren't favorites at all since I don't find them worth the calories, whereas other favorites I will make the effort to fit them in.
I thought I loved Oreos, but I haven't had an Oreo in almost 6 months now because I never think the payoff is good enough for the calories. Same with Ice Cream.
Twinkies on the other hand, I'll make room for Twinkies or other Hostess snack cakes. I'll also make room for meatloaf and pot roast, but pizza for some reason doesn't seem like the payoff is worth the calories and I used to happily chow away on pizza frequently.0 -
Chester's Flammin' hot fries.... could live on those things oh and snickers with almonds... yummmm.. I saw them at the check out yesterday and my mouth started watering.0

I saw a lot of people talking about giving up pop tarts because of the calories. I wouldn't touch one myself for the same reason. But Kelloggs makes pastry crisps, which aren't bad. They are like crunchy pop tarts. I buy the Aldi version, which only has 100 calories in a pack for 2 little wafers.0

I still eat whatever I want. However… I admit that "whatever I want" has changed over the past 6 months. I tried a Dr. Pepper a few weeks ago. I ordered a small. I couldn't even drink half of it. It tasted nasty to me. And I used to LOVE DP. Most ice cream is just not worth it to me. Neither are packaged store bought cookies.
FOR ME… It's not the deprivation that sets me up for failure… it's the rules. "No sugar! No soda! No processed foods!" etc, etc. I'm a rebel at heart. If someone tells me I can't have something… my immediate response is somewhere along the lines of F*** you, B***H!" Followed by binge eating that particular item just out of spite. So, I just don't set rules for myself. The truth is…I may not even want it. But if you make something a no-no… I'll eat it out of spite! That's why keto diets or Paleo diets would never work for me. My rebellious nature would rise up against all those strict rules.0 -
I didn't really give anything up, except soda. As for snacks, I was never really a big snacker. I still don't snack a lot, but when I do I don't avoid anything unless I can't make it fit my macros or calories. I still enjoy the occasional pop tart, chips, brownie, crackers, cookies, cheese, etc., but now I actually look at the portion and log it instead of going "sleeve of thin mints, just a snack."0

I haven't drank any soft drinks in about 2 weeks which I am in love with Dr. Pepper Cherry but I haven't said to myself "you can't drink this." I just decided to see how drinking just water helped my weight loss and it has. I usually run a 5K or 10K once a month but for the past month, I've upped the number of maintenance runs I do a week to 4. So with the abandoning of pop tarts (which I haven't missed) and soft drinks and increase in running, I've lost 9 pounds in the past 2 weeks. I like that feeling way more than sugar.0

I used to do that with those rainbow chips ahoy.
I now practice moderation. I haven't cut anything out but I limit myself and I'm very careful to keep unhealthy snacks out of eyesight so I don't overeat them.0 -
I haven't really given up anything, I just practice better portion control. If I'm baking cookies, I just make a batch of very small ones so that I can still enjoy the taste without all of the calories. If I'm craving a hamburger and french fries at the pub, then I will have a hamburger and french fries--I just ask for a box immediately and put half away so that I don't eat it.
Or--if all else fails, I just work out extra hard0 -
I used to love Mozzarella cheese sticks, but now I found out I am highly intolerant to dairy. When I cut out dairy, I lost a lot of weight.0
