They are great if you put a lot of cream cheese on them...but that kinda defeats the purpose!
well but what if you want the cream cheese but dont want to just eat spoonfuls of it out of the tub, you need something to put it on thats not a cal splurge. you can look at it from the other direction that you dont want the rice cake as much as the cream cheese

These are all excellent ideas. Thank you all!!

Just for the record, I tried the Quaker apple & cinnamon ones today, and they reminded me of Golden Crisp cereal! Very yummy!

I hate them. Eat food you like, just reasonable portions. A little less processed and a little more colorful fruits and veggies. Adequate healthy fats and protein to keep you satisfied longer.

plain with peanut butter, the small flavored ones are like chips and unfortunately I usually eat the whole bag so I don't buy those too often.

I LOVE rice cakes. I grew up with them. We always melted cheese on them. White cheddar flavor? Yum! And the cinnamon flavor are like a sweet snack. The mini rice cakes are delicious too. Sour cream and onion. Love it! They are like fluffy chips!

We are eating food we like. It just doesn't happen to be food you like. :)

Everyone likes different things. I always like finding new uses for the rice cake. :)

Why are you putting them on your shopping list? Because they are "good diet food"?
Fwiw. This comment was flagged as abuse. What an odd website.

    Indeed.

I'm told that the abuse flags don't really matter. But I find it interesting what people think is on the level with hate speech and posting pornography (which, according to the revised CG, is the purpose of the abuse flag).

Didn't you know that questioning someone's mindset or any type of criticism is considered abuse in the overly sensitive MFP world?

How many are you up to?

Why not just use toasted wheat bread? (real question)

1 slice of bread is nearly the same calorie count as 2 rice cakes, and way more delicious.

i like the plain, unsalted and will add any kind of spread: nut butters, hummus, cream cheese & jam.. whatever I've got. If I had my choice, though, I'd go with a WASA cracker... rice cakes have a different kind of texture that some people don't like. I don't mind it; it's not my favorite, but they serve as a good vehicle for other things. I would not eat one by itself.

I went to the store just now and bought 2 kinds. I got the Quaker rice cakes (apple cinnamon flavor), and the small rice crisps (caramel flavor). Oh man, they are both MUCH yummier than I expected! Thank you all for your helpful input.

yay! now aren't you glad you asked? Well, I am!! I may try some of the suggestions here, too.

/pat pat- there there it'll be ok. All hail the mighty flag-emperor!

I LOVE rice cakes, preferably the big round kind. Don't keep them around much because I may tend to eat too many at once. It's like eating too much popcorn, tummy does not like.

I like them for the texture- as others have mentioned like packing peanuts or styrofoam. Not really cardboardish I don't think, that description I'd leave to another favorite of mine (the Wasa cracker someone else mentioned, OMG those things are awesome).

Because I like the texture I do like plain, although salted is better. Also I prefer savory over sweet so the white cheddar is a favorite. I like them with cottage cheese on them as well.

Bread will have 2-4 times the calories, doesn't keep as long and...well, it's not a rice cake.

If you happen to like rice cakes, it isn't a step down, either. :)

You must mean that the users of said website are "odd."

I can't see any real benefit from the mechanism, since the flagging is due to the caprice of individuals (who have no penalty for misuse). Additionally, you can flag something off, but there's no way for an opposing viewpoint to balance these flags out, regardless of how "wrong" they were. It does allow groupthink to prevail, however.

Although it is fun to vote a post into submission.

I love the buttered popcorn flavored ones made by Quaker. I will just eat them without garnish. Before this thread, I didn't think of eating them with hummus or PB...so now I might have to try it! B)

WELL, I eat gluten-free. So... I do like rice cakes as a nice bread alternative (althougH i do eat GF bread too). I like them with peanut butter (especially chocolate), or even melted cheese. I also eat them plain. Or eat them with tuna. I also like eating caramel ones.

YMMV. I don't eat them because they are "diet food," but because I, you know, actually like them? lol.

I like the multigrain ones from Quaker. Higher calories, but more fiber and they go really well with greek yogurt

Spread almond butter and jam on a plain (or I guess one of the sweet flavours) rice cakes. Surprisingly tasty!
