Thanksgiving Stuffing or Stuffing Thanksgiving

So many good things to eat.... How do you personally keep yourself from overeating? Light breakfast and lunch or do you skip both so you can eat more at dinner? I typically just eat a lighter breakfast and lunch, but curious as to what others do. Share your plan of attack.

Ours is normally at noon so we eat a light breakfast (cereal) and then eat way too much for lunch we don't need supper

Nice! Maybe I can talk my Mother-in-Law into serving at noon. I hate the wait...

I'm skipping it completely and serving at a shelter.

PS Iron Mtn is a great way to 'earn' those calories - I bet it's busy on TG day?

A lot of exercise before the meal and then just try a little bit of everything until you are satisfied. The problem comes when you put too much on your plate and feel like you have to finish it all. On Thanksgiving, I usually work out, don't eat breakfast and then we eat sometime around 2:00 and then I munch on leftovers for the rest of the day so I stretch it out over a longer period of time. You can always, eat less calories during the week to prepare, that works too.

It's one day...I don't worry about it too much. That said, Thanksgiving around my house and my in-laws consists largely of grazing throughout the day followed by the traditional meal. I don't generally eat breakfast knowing that the grazing will commence around noonish and dinner will be around 4.

I also do a Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving mornings which is a tradition my wife and I picked up a few years ago...so 5K first thing in the morning and then it's time to start eating and being merry and enjoying my family and friends and all of the blessings in my life. I don't really worry about calories and what not...these are occasions, not everyday occurrences...they are rather insignificant in the grand scheme.

I'm pretty sure I will have no issues hitting my protein requisites either...

Nice idea. I usually subscribe to the same "take a little bit of everything" mentality. I need to fine tune it though cause I usually over estimate and still end up stuffed. I'm gonna try to do better this time!

Believe it or not, I don't think of Thanksgiving as that crazy a meal, if you just act like a sane person. A slice of turkey breast meat is low cal, so is sweet potato. You don't have to eat junk just 'cause it's Thanksgiving (e.g. Why put marshmallows on sweet potato? They're sweet and delicious on their own). I exercise a little extra or eat light to allow for a slice of pie and a spoon of gravy, but I'm always full, happy, and at an OK calorie count.

That would be a challenge, although I would not mind giving it a go - self discipline and all that :)

That too....even when I was fat I could never understand the mentality of stuffing yourself until your pants were about to explode open. I guess I'm fortunate also that my family doesn't do weird things like marshmallows on sweet potatoes and what not...the only real "junk" you'll find is pies and tons of booze, wine, and beer....it's the latter that usually gets me...but again...one day...so meh.

Oh yeah... I forgot about the booze. My one glass of wine usually leads to three and then I lose all my resolve. I would rather have the wine than the dessert though.

My general plan was to eat whatever I wanted for the day BUT this plan sounds far less likely to end in a tummy ache! I shall practice moderation!

I can't skip breakfast, it's a recipe for disaster (especially as I want to go to the gym in the morning anyway). So I'll try to make it low calorie, but we'll see... I'll probably need something around 11am too... I don't think we'll have dinner until 3pm or something. I wish it was earlier, but what can you do.

I love wine, I really really do BUT I love pumpkin pie (with so much whipped cream on it that you can not see the pie anymore) way more! Fresh homemade desserts in general are so damn good.

Hmm I think I will eat a bit of it all, stuffing, turkey, sweet potato soufflé, a veggie, I'll skip the white potatoes, maybe just make a small amount for family, then have a piece or two of pie. The difficult part for me will be leftover. What I love most is turkey, stuffing, cranberry on white bread with mayo the next day. I will have to decide to either eat TD or hv my fav as a leftover. Just thinking of it is making me hungry for it. I she just skip it this year. :/

I never have to worry about leftovers anymore. Whatever my M-I-L gives me to take home, my 18 year old will wolf down - probably within the same night it was served to us. Lol

I have to agree. It's not good if I go into this meal too hungry.

There are only a few food holidays each year, so I just take the day off from logging and enjoy whatever I want. I've been maintaining at goal for years now and a food holiday now and then seems to have no effect on my weight. I might feel a little sick and bloated for a few hours if I've overdone it, but that's about it. Then right back to normal the next day.

    Go Stuffing! (*)

Same as you. Lighter breakfast and lunch. I want to kill it at dinner. I also wear what I call thanksgiving pants. anything with elastic. or a dress.
