Hello MFP'ers!

Like the title says, I am looking to open my friend group on here to include those interested in local, organic, non GMO whole foods. I feel this is a great way to lead your nutrition and healthy lifestyle, and it is fun to talk to others who feel the same way. To me, good health and fitness involves knowing what you are putting in yours and your families body, not just calorie counting. Who feels the same way I do? I would love to hear from you!! Please feel free to add me as well if you are just curious about this lifestyle, I am looking to post more about it.

I'm a big fan of organic and local produce. Quality is just as important as quantity.

I specifically moved to an area that has a high density of foods produced by individuals that follow responsible farming where soil, water and crop rotation is a major consideration and we also have about 40 small wineries, 2 distilleries, and 1 brewery and it's on an island. Not many are certified organic generally because of the basic mindset of people that live on islands....saying that most exceed any limitations set by organic certification, nor do they hold the term organic as something special. It's all about the calendar here and what is available now.....and eat accordingly. Not rocket surgery.

You could start a discussion group.
Though realize that pretty much everything is a GMO because humans change their environment. We selected the animals & plants which best suited our purposes, & encouraged their growth, encouraged them to cross breed.

I would love to join this discussion. Eating cleanly has been one MAJOR contributor to my success. I lost 60 pounds living in Norway this summer -- no GMOs, factory farms, profilactic antibiotic use, glyphosate, etc. Since returning to the US, I have struggled to keep pure the things that go into my body. This includes water -- no floridated/chlorinated water in Norway.

I don't pay attention to GMOs, but I am interested in eating what's local and in season.

However, because right now that would leave me with a limited selection (I'm in Chicago, where we have long winters), I also eat lots of supermarket produce.

I'm endlessly fascinated with locavores and all that, though, so if anyone is trying to do that I'd probably be interested in reading about your efforts.
