I eat at Subway quite frequently. I typically go with the Veggie Delite chopped salad. I load up on all the veggies (minus black olive...bleck). Instead of dressings I usually tell them to douse it with a little red wine vinegar (virtually 0 cals, low sodium). If I do decide to indulge in a sub I get the Veggie Delite on wheat. I make sure to have them "scoop" out the center of the bread (not sure how many calories this saves). Load up the veggies and again...skip the sauce.

A veggie delite chopped salad with no olives and vinegar?

What is that, like 50 calories? Do you ever eat actual food?

Hahahahahahaha...yes, I eat actual food. But I absolutely adore the Veggie Delite salad. It is huge and it fills me up. This is especially useful if I think I might want something off my "diet" to eat that day

A 4,000 calorie meal seems impossible.
I used to do it. A lot.

I seriously have my doubts that people who eat at fast food restarurants once a week are counting calories. I guess they are trying to be healthy after all when they order a Big Mac, large fries and then get a diet coke they are trying to save a few calories (Sarcasm intended).

I love broad, sweeping generalizations (sarcasm intended).

Lololol I eat at subway 1-2 times a week, always count my calories, whether they are high or low ;P

Ate a Subway sub today. 410 cals, but 1550 mg of sodium. Urgh.

Just FYI, Subway carries both light and regular mayonnaise. Often times when refilling the mayo, the employees will just grab whichever bag is open at the time, or whichever they haven't run out of yet. Same with making the tuna or seafood mix ... You could be getting light or full fat. Happens all the time.

They have the nutritional calculator which shouldn't be too confusing for most folks.

I don't think we assume them to be 'healthy' and if we do, it's individual education we should be focused on.

By the way the counter people react, few other customers order a 6" sandwich without the chips and a drink. They're always trying to push the foot long and the meal deal on me when I order. Their pricing even drives people to do that for the "value."

All light mayo and some regular mayo has paprika. I'm allergic to paprika. That means no mayo for me unless I'm certain of the brand and type - hence no mayo on anything dining out. That certainly helps my fat count on any sandwich.
  • Whenever I eat out I assume there are at least 200 calories that I don't know about. Not every sandwich is made exactly the same, so the nutritional info isn't always going to be accurate.

That's because those people were not going there looking to eat less calories, subway has calories posted when you walk in, it's in the database..there is no need to guess or assume because you went there you are eating healthy... my subway meal is almost always less than 500 calories, normally around 400 calories, and it works for me.

So it's not that Subway, McDonald's or other fast food restaurants are worse than we think, it's that people suck at estimating calories? Oh, that's why I usually look up nutrition information prior to going places like that. :ohwell:

    Correct.

I know tons of very healthy people who eat fast food all the time. Its not the fault of the restaurant if people don't bother to look up the calorie data for food they are eating.

Hard to believe they could be worse than i think...never had a sandwich or wrap from Subway that was worth its calories....

I'm paranoid about getting the wrong drink, the rare times I get a fountain diet soda (not just at Subway, lol). What is it, 200-300 for a real Coke?

It's not worse than I think, I know how many calories are in everything that I eat! lol
but this does not surprise me at all, most people are completely clueless about calories and other nutrition info!

Their job is to upsell. It's how we make money. Have you never worked in food service?
