Anyone have personal reviews on the following food scales?

I've bought three in the last 7 months and they have ALL crapped out super quickly regardless of battery type. So I just want to buy online now since I figure returns will be less of a hassle and maybe the local brands are just crap.

So these are some of the scales on Amazon.ca that I am considering. Otherwise has anyone in Canada bought from amazon.com and is the shipping bad enough to not bother with buying from there? There were a couple from the US I was interested in as well, I will post the links and if the cost will be comparable then I'd be willing to buy from the US.

    I have an OXO and it's great. I've actually had two of them...the first one was a wedding gift and I bought the second one last year...so I'm going to say the first one lasted about 8 years of moderate to heavy use. Even before all of this, my wife and I used a food scale quite a bit.

    Do you have the same model or a different type? I saw good reviews for the pricier version(s) but mixed for the one I posted here - that the buttons eventually stopped working or something. But I love that it has that pull out thing.

    I have an Ozeri Multifunction "elegant" (the first one) and it gets the job done -- though in spite of the specs saying it weighs in 1 gram increments, I find my unit will only weigh in 2 gram increments. I like that it uses standard AAA batteries, and I like that it weighs negative amounts (my old scale didn't do that).

    I don't have the EatSmart food scale, but I have a bathroom scale from them. Their customer service is phenomenal. If you have a problem with scale function (lemons happen), they are VERY good about replacing the buggy product. I had this experience with the bathroom scale, and if you read the Amazon reviews for their products you'll see a lot of happy customers who have had a similar experience.

    I have the pricier one, but the only difference I can see is that mine has a light (which I rarely if ever use) and mine has separate power/zero buttons. Otherwise it seem exactly the same...haven't had any problems with my buttons...if it were me rather than my wife who bought this thing I would have gotten the less expensive one you posted...looks to be pretty much the same thing and who needs the light?

    Going to go home and have a talk with my wife now....

    I have the first one as well. The scale does move in 1 gram increments. It's accurate and reliable. I'd definitely recommend it.

    Actually, scratch that...mine has an 11 Lb capacity...it looks like the cheaper one you posted only has 5 Lb capacity. This is only important to me in that sometimes I have a heavy pot or something on the scale and 5 Lbs capacity in some cases wouldn't be enough for me to have the pot on there and then start adding food, etc.

    I'll probably buy one of the ones on .ca (probably the first since cheaper, woo) and if I ever in the future feel that I need more weight capacity I'll shell out for the 11-lb oxo. I think that one would be great if I ever host big dinners or something. Also the Oxo issue wasn't the buttons it was actually the display itself, seems a number of people have had issues with it just for the 5lb model.

    Yeah, if you don't need the capacity or the light, I can't imagine the actual machine is any different. I think it's a solid product.

    I have an Oxo 5 lb and love it. It just works .. uses AAA batteries. So rechargeables are needed, unless you want to replace them every 2-3 months. No problems it works very well. I use mine daily.

    Do triple A batteries tend to run out quicker? One of the ones I Have now uses 4 AAAs. Died within a month.

    how long have you had the 5lb OXO though? The reviews I've seen have said that its screen readout crapped out after the 1 year warranty.

    is the size decent? One issue I always have is when I want to put stuff on a normal large plate and cannot see the read out unless I'm doing crazy acrobatics

    My large dinner plates have a huge lip, so it can be a little challenging to see the display if I'm using a dinner plate, but it's not impossible. I can see the display just fine if I'm using a paper plate-sized plate, or even a medium frying pan. The top of the scale is large enough that I can scoot the plate back a little bit without risking it falling off.

    I have the first one and I love it. I can read the display with larger plates. The only time I had a hard time reading it was when I put my huge stock pot on it yesterday.

    I had a cheaper scale that I got at BBB a few years ago, but I got tired of the things it couldn't do and upgraded to this: amazon.com/gp/product/B001NE0FU2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The new scale is awesome, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat!

    I have the Ozeri pronto and am very pleased with it. I can easily convert from g to ml or oz just by touching the button. It easily tares and can hold a lot of weight. If you are using a big dinner plate, it covers up the numbers, but you just have to push the plate back a bit or bend down and look- no crazy acrobatics at all. I really enjoy it.

    I've had a couple of the Eat Smart ones that you linked to. The first one lasted about three years and I've had this second one a year and a half so far. Where I keep it, it tends to be exposed to water spills and such, so I think that's actually pretty good for the price. They do everything I need them to and they don't cost much. I figure no scale is going to thrive in a messy counter environment so there is no point in getting an expensive fancy one. I just need to weigh things, I don't need anything else.

    Yeah, I've gone through THREE lithium batteries on one scale since buying it in May (and this is with discontinuing its use for a while too), and on the scale I bought 1-2 months ago I'm about to need to replace the batteries a third time. So like... guh.

    Fate doesn't want me to succeed with appliances and electronics.

    I have an Ozeri (not the model you have listed, I have the 11lb touch professional) and I've changed the batteries 3 times I believe since I got it a little over a year ago. I use it daily and my 3yr old seems to think it's a toy. I have caught him numerous times in the kitchen, touching the power area just to see the display light come on.

    Oh and mine uses CR2032 (I think...might be CR2025) batteries.

    There is no doubt that AAA 's do not last as long .. they have about 1/3rd the capacity of a AA. So yes. I use rechargeables.

    Re the display issue .. never had problems. Their display probably dies cause their batteries did. I would not expect that to be an issue .. as it is just a simple LCD.

    I have had mine about 14 months no problems.

    I have the Ozeri Pro Digital Kitchen Food Scale, 1g to 12 lbs Capacity, and it works great so far. Had it for a year no problems, good brand, no battery changes yet and use it every day

    When I read the reviews they stated that changing the batteries didn't help. But I wasn't aware of AAAs being less powerful. I'll definitely look to see which scales use AA instead, otherwise I'll use rechargeables only if I buy a AAA scale!

    I have an Ozeri scale, but it's not one of those listed here. It has a black tempered glass face and looks like a tablet computer. I have to change the lithium batteries on that about every 4-6 weeks. I now have a backup supply of batteries. I love the scale, but I'm with you...batteries should last at least three months, imho.

    Odd. I have the same scale...well I don't know what edition yours is. mine is the 11lb edition and I don't have to change the batteries that often.
