The running joke in the area where I grew up was the mosquito was the provincial bird. Nuclear mosquitoes sounds worse...

I always had a suspicion Calvin's dad made those camping trips awful on purpose. Who knows what nefarious purpose he had in mind though?2

Calvin's dad is all wet... pun intended...

Not all dads are morning people. Myself, for example...

Methinks Calvin's dad has a different vision of vacation than the rest of his family...

I never felt sorry for Calvin's dad in these vacation bits. He clearly picked a vacation that only he wanted to go on, and then was disappointed that the rest of his family didn't magically change their minds once they were doing the things they didn't want to do.
My dad loved camping and my mom would've rather jumped off a bridge. So one or two weekends a year he'd go camping with his friend, and our family vacations (if they were more than a day trip) involved a hotel. Using the good sense the lord gave him, my dad would've never dragged my mom and two kids (or one kid and a tiger) into the woods with a tent!2 -
@kinny72 - I agree but growing up mine was a camping family and we all pretty much loved it. My husband would never camp though (city boy through and through) so I camped with our daughter with Girl Scouts and we did family vacations at places we all wanted to visit with a nice hotel. I think lots of families though were and may still be like Calvin's...2

My family didn't vacation much when I was a kid... and when we did, it was usually visiting family. I didn't realize this was unusual until much later in life. I still find I'm restless on vacation... feel guilty for not doing something...1

My dad was a geologist and often times away at a remote worksite. We would camp somewhere near where he was working, sometimes for most of the summer. For a kid it was pretty much heaven - playing, swimming and fishing in the river, getting dirty, hiking, sleeping outside... Honestly though not sure how my mom did it!2

I wonder where Calvin gets his sarcasm from... his mother or his father... or both?
