If you're really serious about lifting and have the $ get weightlifting shoes. There's just no comparison IMO.

I wear Nike Romaleos which I use for all the compounds except for Deadlifts - those I prefer doing in socks.

Vibram fivefingers, flat, heel on the ground, way it should be if you are a lifter

My friend wears the Merrell ones that do NOT have separate toes. She likes them.

New Balance Minimus. I love them. I tried a couple other "barefoot" style shoes and like these the best.
    Yes!! Love NB Minimus
    these- or my vibrams.
    - If I didn't have either of those- chuck's/converse/socks.
    - whatever is flat.
    - I'm too cheap to buy real lifting shoes.

I've never seen these shoes. Are they good for running too? I need a new pair of running shoes. I'm too cheap to buy 2 pairs.

    which?
    vibrams or minimum?

I run in both honestly- it takes some adjusting- but I don't mind I like them. I've put some miles on mine- not crazy miles- since I don't run much- but I ran a trained and ran a trail 5K last year in my vibrams. little fish for real runners- but for me that was adequate proof they worked.

same results for the minimum honestly.

Yeah, I don't need hardcore shoes. I hate running, I will never be a runner. I just do it for cut and maintenance cycles.

Even when I am running- they hold up okay- but I mean it's not like I'm putting down a hundred miles a month- for real- it's just a couple easy miles a month... same purpose LOL

A slightly raised heel can be beneficial when squatting and even benching - but this should only be in shoes specifically designed for the purpose, like Olympic lifting shoes.

    No heel for deads though.
  • Any flat soled shoe will do. Chuck Taylors are a great example. I wear these http://www.zappos.com/adidas-originals-superstar-2-white-white
