I really like paleo in that it promotes clean eating by cutting cutting out processed foods. I think that's something everyone can benefit from.

Some of the details like avoiding beans and rice...are goofy in my opinion. Also...almonds are ok but peanuts aren't? This is goofy.

Unless you grow your own food and slaughter your own meat, all of your food it "processed".

    No need to be obtuse.

    Am I still being obtuse?

    Now you're being acute.

A colleague at work eats a Paleo diet which she says keeps her at a healthy weight and feeling good. I searched it on the internet and it seems to be very high in protein (meat) which would make it extremely hard to stay on or under 1200 calories and it would be a lot of fat also. Anyone knows of this diet?

100 g of protein is 400 calories, in the form of lean ground beef about 600 cals. So no problem with that aspect.

All the things you mention change the calories out side of the equation. You still have to adjust to create a deficit to lose weight

In which case "deficit" is just a way of saying "losing weight" and becomes somewhat redundant outside of metabolic chambers. You have to adjust and/or reduce what you eat in order to lose weight might be a simpler message for most people.

Paleo is awesome. It's based on what is good for your body and what your body is capable of processing. Lean meats, vegetables, and good healthy fats (i.e. avocados, eggs, etc).

The average human is capable of processing grains, beans, and other legumes just fine.

The fact that they cause excessive gas would indicate otherwise.

If you have leptin resistance, as 1.5 billion people do, then it's possible to gain weight on just 500 calories.

    This is complete horse****.

There isn't a human alive that gains fat on 500 calories. There is no medical condition that can cause it, and there can be no medical condition that can cause it.

Actually, you're the one who is talking complete horse****. People who have "hypothalamic obesity" gain weight on a very restricted diet. Most sufferers are morbidly obese; some are children as young as six years old. It's a living nightmare.
This is a good article on the subject:

I agree that you can lose weight on any diet that you choose to lose weight on as long as you have a calorie deficit. But studies by *scientists* such as Steven Gundry and Barry Sears have shown that the FDA recommendations are bunk. People need more fat, and they need GOOD fats. The ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 should be 1:1, not 30:1 as is usual in the average American diet. That means eliminating corn oil, canola oil, etc. and using olive oil, eating fatty fish, and so on. Saturated fat is not necessarily a bad thing either in small quantities. Grains, however, are a problem. Look for the book "Wheat Belly." Cardiac disease and obesity rise exponentially with an increase in grain consumption, which the US government pushes (largely because lobbyists are at their doors). So...ask a cardiologist or weight loss specialist, not your MFP buddies, what you should be eating. Paleo may or may not be the way to go, but less grain, more vegetables, and good fats definitely will get you on the right track.

Uh, not if you prepare them properly!

Personally, I think that focusing on eating
a lot of vegetables and protein and lesser amounts of processed foods is just a healthier way to live, but I don't think you necessarily need to cut out all grains or dairy. I'm not paleo but I try to base my meals around non-starchy vegetables because the calories are lower for a higher volume of food.
If you're looking to lose weight, paleo recipes could help with ideas, but definitely keep an eye on your calorie count daily.

Thanks. I definitely need healthy way of eating that is not restrictive. I am searching for a low carb (which is my downfall) way of eating that would work for me.

Hi. I suggest looking at chris powells choose more lose more if you are interested in low carb but not too restrictive. It is carb cycling some days are low carb others high carb depending on the cycle you choose. It is so easy to follow! I have lost around 11 lbs doing it and the way its structured I never want or need to cheat bc I am never ever hungry! I have done paleo but I started having digestive issues but it was not too bad its realky meant to be moderate protien tho well I did the primal blueprint anyway. So I also did some carb restriction on the hcg diet awhile back so it gave me practice on it. Then I tried ketogenic a little while ago but it was too restrictive and I kept cheating. Then I found chris powells plan and he broke it down to when I needed to be eating what portion, what calories and all that so simple and easy! I love itI have ben olittle over two months. I suggest it most highly! Message me if you like:)
