There are several different types of sugar, and your body will indeed know the difference. There are monosaccharides, disaccharides, polysaccharides and oligosaccharides. Might be more, can't remember. They definitely all behave differently when metabolized.0 -

Nope, the sugar in both is approximately 4 calories per gram.
The majority of calories in a donut, depending on the type, are probably from flour and especially fat.
In fact, I just pulled up the facts for a Dunkin Donut chocolate frosted donut, and compared it with a pretty normal-sized apple (170 grams) and found the following:
Sugar: donut=13 grams, apple=18 grams
Calories: donut-270, apple=88
Fat: donut=15 grams, apple=0
Protein: donut=3 grams, apple=0
Fiber: donut=1 gram, apple=4 grams
So it is certainly true (as we all knew) that a donut is more calories per oz than an apple, but it is NOT true that the sugar in the donut is somehow more caloric than that in the apple.
Of course, I somehow magically managed to get fat without caring about donuts, let alone eating them 24/7 as some here seem to think we all want to do.
So, if you want to cut down on sugar, stay away from apples and have a donut instead.0 -
but sugar is delicious.0

I fell for 30 bananas a day..... not my finest moment.0 -
Wow, I can't imagine how that's even possible. Still, it's probably better to binge on bananas than potato chips and ice cream...0

I cannot. Cannot. Process the thought of eating 30 bananas a day. I don't think even monkeys eat that many. Wow!! I love bananas but the very thought of eating that many makes me quite ill!0

Potassium overload surely??0

The sugar in fruit is lower calorie then the sugar in a doughnut... now I've heard it all...

Correct. Processed sugars have more impact on the body because they are more easily digested/absorbed than natural sugars like in fruit. Ones body will absorb more of the processed sugars while the body will pass more of the natural sugar together with the fiber into one's scat.
In spite of the many closed minded people on here, there is a difference in digestible calories.

If you are eating at a calorie deficit (moderation) none of this will impact weight/fat loss, and probably health as well...

You need to reread the post. I was talking about a comparable size/weight apple and doughnut. The doughnut will have possibly three times more calories.

Really? That's what you got from this post?

I know fruit for me is something I have to eat sparingly but veggies are something that you should never sacrifice if your on a low carb diet, they fill you up and they are typically low in calories0

Sugar is sugar. You'll get more fiber and nutrition from fruit than, say, a candy bar, but sugar is still sugar.0

I get a tummyache just thinking about 30 bananas.

Which is why the sugar-phobia is idiotic (and typically demonstrates a lack of understanding of the reasons for lowering added sugar given by the WHO et al.).0 -
I just really love ice cream....0

I definitely gained weight by eating fruit.
Even over the last few years since I have started being careful about my diet, my weight jumps up every June when fruit is cheap, local and plentiful. I can easily gain ten pounds just by going from one fruit a day to three or four servings.
There is nothing in fruit that you can't get from vegetables.0 -
They taste different. I love most vegetables and eat a lot more of them than fruit, but delicious as it can be broccoli simply doesn't taste like a fresh, in season, peach or strawberry, and can't substitute for them, so pitting them against each other seems odd. It's quite easy to fit fruit calories into one's diet if one likes, and there's no reason not to. I eat lots more fruit in the summer, but lost weight just as easily, because I counted calories.
I will stipulate that 30 bananas a day is too much for just about anyone, despite the Freelees of the world and their claims.0 -

I don't think anyone really knows that for sure...

*raises hand* I did. Eating roughly 3000 calories of bananas a day, only bananas. Stupid stupid me. If you put yourself in a calorie surplus, you gain weight, no matter the source.
That's like 30 bananas ... Omg I would puke
