Starting a juice re-boot!

Just a FYI as you mention the movie one of the main points is that a juice fast has to be medically supervised. I skimmed the post and didn't see you mention this once.
Please realize there is a reason he emphasizes the need to be medically supervised, please go see your doctor before you continue.
This isn't meant to be negative in anyway.0 -

I'm not a rocket scientist, nor am I a halfwit - I've done plenty of research on my own. The movie was free since it's on Netflix, I already owned Dr Fuhrman's book as well as others (particularly one on psoriasis by Dr Pagano), and just had to dust off the juicer we already owned. Joe Cross isn't making any money off of me.
I know this isn't a long term solution, at the very least I'm hopeful for a break from a sugar addiction and some weight loss momentum. I've heard the critics, but I've also heard from a lot of people who have been amazingly successful. I'm hoping to be one of them.
I was also hoping for encouragement and support and motivating words and maybe a partner/friend to join with me. I asked for no criticism. I started this post with anticipation and within an hour was in tears from the pile up on me. This has been incredibly discouraging.

You are getting a lot of GOOD advise here. Just a thought but you should look at this journey you are on ,not as a diet .But as a life change.Doing a juice fast isn't going to help you .You can not live on juices alone. Get a scale and weight your food and watch everything you put into your month. And if its sugar juices that you are drinking good sugar or bad sugar your body will react the same way. Yes fruit is good for you but not 6 or more servings a day . I am a juice girl but i have one juice a day and it only has one serving of fruit like 1 orange or 1 apple or 1 cup frozen berries .I never use more than 1 fruit in my juices .But i use a LOT of green and either a beet or a few carrots . We are here to support you that is why we are voicing strongly that juice fasts are not the way to go. If you would like to add me as a friend to help you a long your way feel free tool.0 -

Which is better, to learn the truth, or to enjoy the illusion of being right when you are not?
You're not ready to lose weight.

Joe and Phil's success (especially Phil!) really inspired me to try again. I feel like I've tried every possible diet out there, and have come to realize moderation doesn't work for me. I need something drastic, a major re-set! I know it won't be easy at first, but I'm motivated by the success and ease once the first week or so has passed and withdrawals have gone.
I'm 51 yrs old, I have a full time job but work at home, and am a mom to 2 boys. I am at my absolute heaviest ever! It's shameful - 210 lbs and I'm only 5'3".
I'm on Day 2. Anyone want to join me? No criticism please, just encouragement and friends welcome.

I understand everyone sending you guidance on healthy eating...but honestly I'm kind of with you on the juicing...but only as a way of kicking the toxins and helping you stop the foods that create addiction (processed food) that is really not on the shelves for us to buy because of its nutritional content, but because the food industry is only interested in making money.
I did juice but have now moved to having a couple of nutribullet blasts a day and honestly I feel great!
I'm getting all the goodness my body needs including the fiber, I eat these for breakfast and lunch and have a healthy dinner with snacks etc inbetween.
I totally get that you want to stop your food addiction completely! Once you have got the toxins out your system then you can more easily cope with eating and logging your food. Best of luck lovely x0 -
I've tried this under a Dr's supervision and it has helped me crave healthier foods0

What toxins specifically? Also, do you have any case studies showing that juice fasts are good for "eliminating toxins"?
Please do not spread harmful broscience without case studies or solidified proof.

Your body has a natural filtration system that is your kidneys and liver. There is no need to "detox". And I believe the jury is still out on if "food addiction" is an actual thing or not...0 -

I get this response however why don't you provide evidence for her as to why this is false?

Your not really helping by calling someone out who is obviously uninformed.-1 -
I saw that documentary too, and thought it was pretty powerful. While a juice diet might be effective to lose weight at first, it doesn't teach you how to eat in moderation over the long-term. However, my husband and I decided to buy a juicer after watching it, mainly since he doesn't like to eat many vegetables, so it's a good way to get more micronutrients into his diet from things he wouldn't normally eat.
I like making homemade juice sometimes as a healthy addition to my diet, and would maybe try a juice fast for a couple days just to give my digestive system a rest, but as everyone else said, accurately logging on MFP and adding in some daily physical activity are your best bet It's a lifestyle change! You could also consider getting a Fitbit to encourage more daily walking.
Best of luck!! Feel free to friend me if you like.0 -

It's good to bear in mind that while sometimes the advice on here can seem critical, it's not meant that way. It's often because the people replying have been exactly where you are right now and they've since learnt that short term solutions don't work for anything apart from, well, short term goals.
By all means incorporate juicing into your plan, but for any long term effects, good old calorie counting is what is needed. And the best thing about it? It's the easiest diet to follow and can involve small changes to your life.

Thank you Charlotteyan75 and Gail2424!!! This is the encouragement I'm looking for. I'm only doing this for 15 days so no medical supervision needed (no medical issues here), and I'm following the 80/20 rule (80% veggies, 20% fruit). I'm motivated to kick my diet coke and sugar addictions, and when it's over plan to still juice every day with healthy food included.
From what I understand people feel great during and afterwards, and start to crave the juice - even the mean green one, that'll be the challenge for me
Thank you again!! You've lifted my spirits.0 -

Unfortunate. I think it's time to bow out and let this one follow the course she chose. I don't think any amount of advice will be heard at this point.

This thread makes me sad. I tried to write a nice, concise, helpful post. I really wanted to help the OP.
and I don't know why I bothered now... so I'm going to use my new favorite gif.

No, I'm listening to everyone. Most of the advice is great, some not so much. But that's not why I created this message board - the intent was for others like me who would like to try this for a short period of time to support and encourage each other. That's it. I wasn't looking for criticism or judgement. I've done plenty of research, and wouldn't categorize myself as uninformed.0

Reading biased sources on blogs and watching scaremockumentaries is not "research".
You're right you are not "uninformed". Just simply wrong.

You are not informed and should go back to researching, and instead of using netflix and people trying to make money off your desperation as your research tools, actually look into doing some real research.
Do you watch Dr. Oz for research too?

You know, I think I'm going to bow out too. This has also made me sad. I'm not disagreeing with any of you! But this is something I'd like to try for 15 days, that's it. I'd love it if it gave me the momentum to keep going with healthy eating and exercise.
Thank you all for your wonderful advice; I'm impressed with your determination and knowledge and success.0
