I am a new member as of today. I was diagnosed with Diabetes in May, 2014 and still need help with eating the right foods and maintaining my blood sugar levels, not to mention my weight. Can MyFitnessPal help me maintain both? Thank you.

Like everything else, MFP is a tool. I'm type 2 in remission and I still eat like a diabetic. I like it. I've been tracking for nineteen months and I've lost 90 pounds.

The first adjustment I suggest you make is add two meals and rename them as follows Breakfast (default), Lunch (default), Dinner (default), Snack AM (renamed), Snack Aft (new), and Snack Eve (new).

Are you eating on a routine, starting with breakfast at the same time every day and regular snacks?

It can help you track calories, and even more important carbs, yes. I'm assuming you're eating low carb? We have a low carb group here, as well as one for diabetes, if you'd be interested. That's interesting that you can rename meals, I had no idea. But I do eat on a schedule and I just track all my snacks in one place.

Interesting, Sugarbeat. Do you have links to those groups? The group search feature is horrible here.
  • MFP helps me keep track of my carbs and calories in one place, so in that way it's a useful tool for both diabetes and weight loss. Since, when you log on MFP, you will have all the nutrition facts in one place (and a total per meal, which is great) you can see the trends in your BG when you eat certain things. I use it along with mySugr (highly recommend this for a log book) on mobile so that I can just pop back and forth between apps and make sure everything looks ok. :)

I was diagnosed with diabetes in January 2014. I told myself I would be free of diabetes in 6 months. It took until today for my doctor to say I am no longer diabetic. About 6 months longer than I thought. Don't give up. Get rid of the sugar, workout everyday and be patient.
I dropped 36 pounds. I started on loseit.com but switched to MFP at the suggestions of friends who have since quit. Stay focused and don't quit, you can do it!
Remember, reasonable expectations in a reasonable amount of time.
    Good luck!

Yes, MFP can help you do both. When you lose weight, your blood sugar goes down.
    Log everyday.

I too am a diabetic. I labled my foods as Meal 1 thru Meal 6. I eat 5 to 6 times a day. My food diary is open if you want to take a peak.

You do want to keep track of carbs, fiber and protein. (carbs - fiber = net carbs)

Here are the links for Diabetic type 2 and low carb

check out the LCD launch pad on the low carb site too (first page that opens)
