Ok! How does cortisol stop fat loss, make you lose muscle mass, make you burn few calories?

Ok so I lift alot of weights Now and I keep seeing all these articles about how high cortisol can cause leptin/insulin resistance and fat gain around the stomach. And now people keep saying it cause you to burn few calories and causes fat gain no matter if you are in a deficit because its going to make your body target your muscles instead of fat. Now these people say if i have high cortisol i should just stop weight lifting and cardio all together. Pretty much just stop working out i suppose because apparently these things are going to cause me to gain fat because my hormones are out of whack and i will binge eat. So now i am just literally

    Im sorry but I cant help it I love working out and it seems like my progress, fat loss,muscular gains has really come to a halt and I just cant stop binge eating and besides everytime I go to my doctor he doesn't believe that there is anything wrong with my hormones which I done asked him twice and explained to him why I need it and how desperate I am and he still insist im fine. (sigh... Damn doctors you think you know it all) But anyway I agree with you which I dont like agreeing with people. Knowing that I already suffer from OCD anyway. (sigh) im sorry I should have never got on here again and bothered any of you about these crazy questions.     Unfortunately, doctors may not know it all but they are the most educated in medicine and so there isn't much of a higher authority to look to. Excess cortisol is most often the result of an adrenal tumor and so your first concern there is cancer, not necessarily weight distribution. But if you don't have high cortisol in your blood levels, then you have nothing to worry about (regarding cortisol), and if you ever had a hormonal imbalance it would be up to your doctor to find it. It is a sad world we live in where all over the media we have advertisements recommending we ask our doctors if we have a litany of problems... If you are concerned about not reaching your fitness goals, you should ask your doctor for recommendations, not the other way around :)

I just got turned on to him and don't have it down packed but he seems pretty cool. He has written books and has a line of vitamins on the market as well. Good luck in your search.

    The questions you're asking and the help you need is beyond the scope of what we can provide in these forums. If you're bingeing, you need to get help for that issue, and we can't provide that other than to tell you to see a professional. We're giving you the best advice we can.

    Any internet doctor with a line of his own vitamins isn't going to be able to help you other than lightening your wallet. Listening to the poster above is just going to make your obsessive tendencies worse. Go see your psychiatrist.

    What most don't know is that cortisol is a response to high intensity exercise and a good part of it.
    There are lots of cherry picked reasons why presence of cortisol is bad, but if one is actually healthy, then cortisol shouldn't be an issue.

    Why don't YOU do your homework and realize that Dr. Hyman is irrelevant to this poster's needs. You can flag me, but you can't make me (and the other posters you flagged) wrong. This is not the first thread along these lines.

    Taylor, you do not deserve to be tortured by the thought that your hormones are betraying you. Please discuss your physical concerns with your therapist as well as your MD.

    The one I always go back and forth on is spam. When the only purpose of someone's post is to plug some book or random quack, I always wonder at what point it wanders into spam territory. It's more of a rhetorical question, I imagine it's too subjective to get a perfect grasp of.

    That's a very good thing. We're telling you not to do a bunch of your own internet research because of this. You really shouldn't start taking any vitamins/supplements without the approval of your doctor. We don't know exactly what is going on with you, physically or otherwise, but you've mentioned issues (binge eating and OCD) that need to be monitored by health professionals. Nobody on the internet should be giving you random health advice. If you have other health concerns and if you're taking anything (prescription or otherwise), it may not be safe for you to add anything.

    Maybe ask your psychiatrist to do a hormone panel, and other general bloodwork, especially where your family dr isn't doing it. Deficiencies or excess amounts of anything in our system can mess us up (not just talking about general weight loss and body building goals). I would think your psychiatrist would agree to do the bloodwork to rule out anything that could be contributing to your mental health issues, etc. mentioning this from personal experience. My dr just requested another panel to check things ... partly to do with my weight loss struggles. Good luck. Send me a FR if you want. Take care :)

    If you're not sure, or if it's something like Beachbody, you're supposed to report them as advertising.
