If there's buttercream or cream cheese frosting (like red velvet cake) it should be kept in the fridge0 -

I don't eat in the middle of the night, except I tried it once to see what it was like. Just didn't like it.
With the bold part, do you mean eating food in the middle of the night wakes you up? I ask because your metabolism doesn't get shocked, there is no reason for it to.
If you're getting up and eating in the middle of the night, I'd suggest a bedtime snack instead.
If you still get up in the middle of the night to eat something, you can either plan it and save the calories or you can practice willpower.

so... what are you selling???
agreed. weird post. definitely seems like a sell of some sort - which BTW OP, is not allowed on the boards. If we're all really wrong, and you're just kind of an unusual communicator, i would suggest focusing on ways to address your sleeping problems. i have never woken up in the middle of the night to eat. If you wake up in the night, I would suggest you might want to a)exercise enough that you are physically tired, so that your body will not wake up b)go see a dr about sleep problems - they can be real, but can be addresses through changes in habit, diet, or last resort, meds.0 -

Ah I see, I don't buy cake with those in them as I'm not keen on either, hence my lack of knowledge, lol. I would've thought the cake would get kinda condensated and soggy while in the fridge.0 -
No I'm not trying to sell anything, sry if it came across that way, my issue is that I have family that gets up to use bathroom and then eats a snack. I just think some people do this as well, looking for advice. Thanks in advance.0

Bathroom yes people do that. I can actually know when I need to wake up out of a dream to use the bathroom. Now to eat afterwards that I think is uncommon.

sounds like learned behaviour that just needs to be "unlearned".0 -

I agree. You'd think if someone got up in the night to use the restroom they'd want to get right back to bed...

Don't keep cake in your restroom.
Problem solved.
Unless they're 'doing their business' in the kitchen, in which case it would seem there are more important issues to address.0 -
Or taking Ambien?

That and stop keeping candy and cake in the house if you want to lose weight, especially if you eat in the middle of the night.
The initial post did sound like it was going to lead to a sales pitch.0 -

or brush their teeth when they're done eating. Makes me wonder if the OP's family gets any sleep at all....

I guess I'm lucky in that my master bedroom has the attached bathroom. I'd have to be pretty lost to end up in my kitchen.
I never had any issues with night snacking though. To be honest, I don't usually wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom either - I make sure I pee right before bed. I know this is kind of unusual, but if it's really bad have a healthy snack before bed. I read somewhere that bananas and milk are supposed to help you sleep better, so maybe have a small glass of milk and a banana?
I generally have an after dinner snack of cereal though, so maybe that's why I don't get hungry overnight as well.0 -
Sometimes I get out of bed at night to use the bathroom or drink some water.
Maybe make yourself just drink water and then go straight back to bed.
I'm not sure what you can do if it is a family member eating at night except talk to them about planning their eating better, lock up the food or get rid of the tempting food. It doesn't actually matter if they eat cake at 2 AM vs 2 PM though if they are not going over their calories for the day.0 -
My sister gets up in the middle of the night to eat a yoghurt or a bag of chips/crisps. It doesn't bother me, because what she eats is up to her.
Sometimes I binge late at night, because it is the only time I am alone after everyone has gone to bed. Once I've gone to bed, even if I don't sleep or I wake up, I don't eat. It has just never occurred to me.0 -
I'm always getting up at night, I rarely sleep more than 1-2 hrs at a time. However the only time I was a night eater is when I was nursing my kids and they would wake up at night to eat. Something about that 2:40-4am feeding would make me feel like I was starving! Back then I ate a lot of whole wheat peanut butter sandwiches.0

Yeah ... ummm ... no.
Some of us walk upright, on our own, without crutches ... and without WooWoo like "rest mode", "shocked metabolism" and other such Malarkey.

Advice? You don't need advice - you already know what to do: don't do that anymore.
It's the only advice that will work: don't do that.

You should get married or move in with someone
Um, I do live with someone. But, please, let's sexualize everything here on MFP.
Well I don't know where your mind is but I was thinking of snoring and being elbowed in the face when he turns in his sleep.
Some people just have filthy minds :huh:0 -

OMG that's so wrong
Although I get confused with Victoria sponge cake with fresh cream and strawberry filling
I think the trick is never to have left over cake0 -

Agreed!
Maybe the OP sleep eats??
The mystery continues...
I sleep eat when I have RLS
ETA: Removed my comment about OP trying to sell something... Seems that's not the case.0
