You're not alone. I prefer the taste of diet soda as well as Coke Zero to full-calorie sodas.0 -

Me too. I suspect it's common.
I switched from regular to diet in my senior year of high school (just because that's what most of the girls drank and I felt weird getting regular, which is kind of pathetic). As a result, I never drank regular soda often at all and by the time I was drinking soda a lot in my 20s I couldn't stand regular anymore--tasted syrupy. I would have sent back a regular soda if given it by accident, as I simply disliked it, but I never assumed it negated the calories in anything else I was eating.0 -

I use splenda in my many coffees and teas througout the day and i drink a lot of diet soda. I consume what i want. Wheather it makes sense to you or not should matter to you. Unless your concerned with my well being for over consumption of artificial sweetners.
What doesnt?
50 packets of Splenda a day and 5 diet cokes.

Each packet of Splenda has approximately 3 calories. If you're really using 50 a day, that's about 150 calories you're not accounting for.0

Me neither. I never thought Diet Coke was giving me free calories elsewhere.

The irony is amazing. As if the diet coke was the solution. Probably because people think sugar is bad, so avoid soda but pay no attention to calories.
Now, obviously, the diet drink isn't going to offset the double/double with cheese and fries, but it knocks more than 25% off the calorie total. That's a win, if it means I can do it more often and stay on track.
I drink diet drinks with my fast food. I prefer to not drink my calories in a flavored carbonation. Also I like the taste. It saves me in calories too. I don't do because I think it will cancel anything out.0 -
I must admit.... I've seen it a thousand times. You see an obese person order a huge meal and then order a diet drink to go with it.
My son (health and fitness freak) zeros in on this every time he see's it... "Look mum, they've just ordered a huge double big mac meal, and got a diet coke, as if that's going to make it better"
Until reading the comments here, i will be honest, I thought exactly the same thing0 -
I still drink diet soda... its my last vice and quite frankly I think we all need one. I quit alcohol and take away junk food so I think that keeping my diet soda is more than fine.
I have to say I am a little jealous. I wish we had diet cherry coke. I am in Australia and diet anything is limited to the main brands with no vartiations0 -

That's because you consume a very small amount of calories already. You can absorb those 150 calories. The fact, though, is that you're not consuming the very few calories that you think you are.

I used to drink 2 diet sodas a day and recently cut them out because I wanted to see if that would help with my sweet tooth. I think it has helped. If I eat too sweet tasting foods I just keep wanting more, whether it be diet soda or candy or chocolate. Just my personal experience. I was already at a healthy weight when I stopped so the soda did not necessarily make me gain or lose weight.0

Personally I don't drink soft drinks at all but that's because I don't like bubbly drinks. I think that it shouldn't hinder your weight loss if you fit it into your goal aka the ones that are calorie intense make them count then those that are zero then there you go.0

I drink the Coke Zero, and Fresca, did not seem to hinder my weight loss. The only real thing that bothers me about the coke is the way that it takes rust off bumpers.0

edited to add: the bottom line is, dont worry about diet soda. youll get people that come in here and tell you about chemicals, and cleaning engines with diet coke, and it causing cravings and addictions and weight gain, and fooling your mind into some other magical garbage...its hard to follow the lunacy.
also, here's a great tip...mixing cherry coke zero and vanilla coke zero is really friggin' delicious.
All of this, and somehow there is still 4 pages worth of the same chatter going on in this post....0 -

I remember back in school when we put an egg into a cup of vinegar and the shell dissolved over night, a nail not so much. People should be a little bit introspective and think to themselves "is the acid in coke stronger than the acid in vinegar?" before they claim stuff like that.0 -

Or your stomach acid, which is pretty darn strong and your stomach handles it just fine!

Yes, I am aware of this. And even the calories from the sweeteners and the PB2 that I spoon here and there that I don't log fits into my calories allotment...0 -
I took this off Facebook today. Probably nothing to do with the subject but I found it interesting and funny.
It was posted by Coach Stevo who is the nutrition and behavior change consultant at San Francisco CrossFit. I'm not so quick to judge what someone else is eating at any particular meal because I don't know what they eat the rest of the time.
