Low carb diet

my sister has had success on a low carb diet. I am thinking about trying it myself. I know that carbs are my weakness and that is where a lot of my calories go. Anyone have any suggestions about how one would get started? What can I eat? What can I not eat? Meal ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Please head over to the number of low carb groups on MFP - The Low Carber Daily Forum has a great launch pad with lots of info for those beginning this WOE: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group
Hope to see you there!0 -
The group is a good place to start. Also, use this to get your macros: http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com
If you want to go keto, set carbs to 20, if it's just lc, 100-150. Answer the rest of the questions, and it will calculate the other 2.
Focus on veggies, meat, cheese, and good fats. Dairy is tricky, so heavy whipping cream is a better choice than milk, and hard cheeses over soft. You can still have those, but they'll take up more of your carbs.0 -
I think you should just track caloric intake first while eating whatever you want so you can understand how weight loss works. THEN you can tweak your diet in a way that will make diet adherence easy, and if low-carb makes it easy and it's something you'd like to do long-term (for life, since we are learning lifestyle changes here), then give it a go.0

I have been tracking for 1 1/2 moths and after looking back at my food diaries....most of what I eat falls in the carbs and fats categories.0

Otherwise, if you want to lower your carb intake then gradually eat fewer carbs. Don't set any grand unrealistic target. Just slowly cut back and see what happens over the next few months.

www.atkins.com has all the info on low carb Atkins style, including the new Atkins 40 that is much easier to follow. It's free!0 -
