Taking food to movie theatre

Oh and the theater in White Marsh has a vending machine for sodas ($4.25 a bottle) so when I go there I ALWAYS grab bottled sodas or waters for us from home or the dollar store and then play it off as if we bought them from there0

I ALWAYS BRING MY OWN FOOD! not only is the food ridiculously expensive at the theatre, but there is not ONE item except for water that is sold at the concession stand that wouldnt leave me feeling guilty lol. i bring a mini backpack and stock up on snacks before I go in lol... 150 calorie pint of Arctic Freeze "frozen yogurt"... apple slices.... these cookies I bake at home that are only 3 ingredients... what else... hmm.... almonds, kale chips.... you get the idea it's all good... stock up!0

Roasted turkey legs. Men, put it in your front pants pocket. The male employees are afraid to ask what it is and the female employees just look at you and smile.0

I didn't even need to sneak it in. I bought a sub at subway and carried it in so they could see it. What are they gonna do? Are they going to choose to lose $12 on a movie seat they most likely will not fill if they have to refund my ticket price? I don't think so. Choose to be discreet if you want on beverages, but i've seen moms bring in a 6-pack of soda, large twizzlers, M&Ms, and then only buy 1 large popcorn at the concession stand and share it among her 5 kids. She just spent $70 on tickets, you think the theater cares about her food and beverages. Not really.
My grandpa worked in the movie theater business his entire career and the interesting thing is, the movie theaters hardly make anything off of tickets. They make all their money off of the food and drinks. They have to pay big bucks to play the movie in their theaters and rarely make a profit with ticket sales.
That being said, I still bring in my own food/drinks. My bf loves to buy their popcorn and drinks but I'm not spending that kind of money so he's usually on his own.0 -
I brought those little bottles of wine in my purse once.0

Pssh, everybody sneaks food in. Take a rotisserie chicken too just for kicks.
this! my ex boyfriend used to bring in a bucket of KFC with sides
they dont even check anymore. i've brought in pizzas, taco salads, burgers, chips, sushi, huge halloween bags sized candy. sometimes my friends and i will see what crazy thing can we bring in to see if they will say something. the huge pizza box was by far the most ridic thing
i always bring in my own water and will sometimes splurge for a slushy and actual popcorn if other people are going to eat with me.
but i think it's cute when people sneak in a sandwich baggy of snack and are like :blushing:0 -
sometimes i sneak in homemade popcorn0

Since my son is allergic to wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, peas, nuts, fish and shellfish...you tell me what he CAN have at the theatre and I'll get it for him...but until then I'm bringing in his own snacks for him. Maybe a bottle of water?0

Lol sneaking foods in the theater is the smart thing to do! I've gone in there with fast food, apples, water bottles, candy... Times is hard!0

Back in high school we sometimes took an entire family sized pizza into the movies...we'd order it, pack it into foil, and slip it into the pockets of our winter parkas. Haven't done that in ages but we still stop for candy before we go to the movies today.0

Thanks for all the support! I guess I have this complex-I went to the "Cheap" theatre one time and they actually stood in front of the screen before the movie and scolded people for bringing their own food in saying that by selling the high priced snacks is how they can afford to have the ticket prices so cheap and then he proceeded to ask the lady in front of me to throw her apple in the garbage can he was carrying.0

I had to switch purses to my big purse the last time I went to the theatres so I could fit in all my snacks and drinks.0

Our local theater is a rip off when it comes to concessions...I went just last week and checked the prices - 4.50 for water, and 5.00 for small fountain drinks...
Needless to say, on movie nights I go to the dollar store (ours sells a bunch of boxed candies you'd find in the movie theater stand,) and buy a few boxes for my son. I also stuff my purse with a few bottles of water and a juice box or two (it's a really big purse lol.)
That said, I think a lot of people opt. to sneak stuff in because the prices are crazy. I recall in my younger years (before being a mom) I used to sneak in mixed drinks lol.0 -
I've taken stuff in with me, for a healthier option. Or, if I want candy, I'll bring it from home with the portion measured out in a ziploc. It's still candy, but it's way better than eating a whole box. You're a girl, put it in your purse and they won't know.
I do this! I love Snow Caps and find it easier to just measure out the portion and stick it in my purse. Now I am a sucker for movie popcorn. Luckily our newspaper has been running coupons for a free small popcorn with ticket purchase at the local theater. That cuts down on costs and I still get my popcorn!
If I'm doing a movie day then I know to eat so I can have the calories for my popcorn.0 -
I go to the movies about twice a year. I bring a full Taco Bell meal.0
-
I always bring my own drinks & snacks when i go to the movies.
Who gon' check me boo? lol0 -
I have a purse that's only purpose in life is to smuggle food into the theatre. I only get consession if we happen to have a coupon of some sort, like if we bought a movie night out pack from Costco.0

I dont usually eat at the theatre but on the rare occasion I want popcorn I have brought my own popcorn in a baggie hidden in my purse while my BF sticks the water bottles in his coat pockets.
They have balls charging $5.50 for a bottle of water and god only knows how many calories are in movie theater popcorn. Lots of sodium, too.0 -
Taking your soda in doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you....but, I'm eating POPCORN! I just log it and deal with it!0
