How/why is protein powder used?

Protein powder is used because people believe all the advertising and can't think for themselves. Rather then get enough protein via food (which is easy) they believe in magical powder which will miraculously build muscle etc. Their money their choice but unless you are an elite athletes your just throwing money away.

So wrong in multiple ways. 1 its not always easy every day to get all your protein from food alone. some people require 160g+ of protein
protein powders simply help one meet their daily protein requirements. they won't magically make you loose weight nor will they make you magically gain weght. that comes from a deficit or surplus of calories.0 -
I never realized how many people didn't eat regular meat to get protein until I joined this forum. I thought maybe if you're vegan or a veggie...but for convenience? Never realize.
Not knocking though. Whatever works do it.0 -
I had weight loss surgery so I use a protein powder formulated for WLS patients in the morning. I cannot eat breakfast - my stomach will not tolerate food early in the morning. So I use a protein shake to get in part of my required daily protein grams as well as get my body started for the day.0

And to some degree economics. The whey I get is about $16 for 25 servings. Ricotta cheese is whey, BTW, so if you think of whey powder as being a convenient way to package that, you can see it as a lot closer to being a natural food made convenient than some of the whole food crowd would have you believe. Not knocking whole food, either - it is my preferred option.0
