So, you don't like to drink, but you do it "because all my friends are doing it" despite the fact that you are trying to achieve a goal?

Erm yeah!!! I'm 22!!! I don't enjoy the taste of drink but I like going out with my friends and getting drunk one night a week!

    O.o

Your best bet would be just to do a few straight shots then (none of those Skittles, dirty hooker, etc. types - just vodka, whisky, scotch, etc). Cut out all the extraneous crap in the drinks since you don't like to taste them anyway and are simply doing it to get drunk because of peer pressures. Save extra money and calories by not eating much that day before going. One or two shots would do you in at your weight with that method.

Lol, I wouldn't advise anyone to eat potato skins or mozzarella sticks on a diet! But I do cheat on rare occasions ;)

I hardly ever drink juice. Like...never. I'm just saying... if you HAVE to add juice to make a cocktail, just use the real stuff. Don't use the fake stuff with high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners/flavors, and preservatives. It'll taste better...it'll be better for you.

The point behind MFP for many, if not most, people is to learn a new way of eating, not to "diet." Learning to eat in a new way means including potato skins or mozzarella sticks or whatever, if you want to include them in the regular foods you eat.

I don't enjoy drinking and would never drink during the week but one night at the weekend I tend to go out and drink with all my friends socially.
If you know you don't enjoy drinking, I'd tell your friends that. Someone who stands up for themselves (occasionally!) is respected in most groups. I would also reflect on what you don't enjoy--the taste (try another drink?) or the loss of control (drink less?). Sometimes it's good to stretch outside our comfort zone, and alcohol can fit into a healthy diet. There's even evidence that a drink--especially red wine--is beneficial! But ultimately, you're going to be the one who lives with your choice--clear or muddled--so I'd make sure it comes from you more than your peers. :)

There was a story in Oxygen last month about a woman about your weight, who wanted to increase her fitness and tone. She found giving up social drinking was the key for her. She lost about 10 pounds, and she looked great. Completely toned arms, great definition on the abs and booty.

So, decide if you want to be smoking hot, or part of the herd.

I suggest one really awesome glass of wine, and water the rest of the night.

This is actually very true. When I was 22 or so I also made a point about not being a heavy drinker like my friends. I wasn't worried about my calorie intake so I would just order one drink I liked and that was it for the night (one and done). Not only did my friends really respect my decisions but I became known as the "classy, responsible one" (their words). I'm really happy I made that choice, because I still got to go out and have fun but I also had a limit on myself that I felt good about. I never felt deprived with just one drink, and with just one you have a little bit more freedom to play with calories and get something fun.

Well they aren't super low on calories, I like to have a Bloody Mary or dark ale + a glass of water. Those fill me up. I do also like a Moscow mule too, it's so bubbly that I can't drink it fast and the copper cup keeps it really cold so I can take my time w/o worrying about it getting watery from the ice.

Another thing I do it go to the fanciest distellery here in zoo town (Montgomery distellery). It's pretty cheap but the drinks and atmosphere are so fancy and friendly. I love going out with my friends there and playing card/board games and talking for hours. The atmosphere is truly wonderful. Plus, they aren't allowed to serve you more than 2 drinks.

On the rare occasion that I do drink I tend to go for red wine or champagne since its usually a special occasion. If I was going out to get drunk I would probably just get shots, cause I dont really like the taste of alcohol and would wanna make it as painless as fast as possible hahaha

Well she DID say 'personally, I'd rather drink real juice than diet ocean spray or something.'

But before that she made declarations like this: "Do yourself a favor and don't drink soda OR diet soda with alcohol. The alcohol is already going to kill all the good bacteria in your gut and make you feel bad. Don't add sugar or artificial sweeteners to your ALREADY carbohydrate-overloaded alcoholic drinks!"

If this is all about what she would rather have, then I don't see the point of offering advice. What one would rather drink is very subjective. If you're going to tell someone to avoid doing something, as a blanket statement, there should be something besides personal preference to justify it.

vodka and club soda with a squirt of water enhancer...love it.

This is my drink of choice. I like the flavored vodkas with club soda.

A vodka soda or a gin and tonic are both low in calories and you can switch it up to a sparkling water and lime during the evening with no one being the wiser.

I used to drink sparkling water and lime at client functions where people were expected to drink, but I wanted to keep a clear head. It looks the same and is quite tasty.

A cosmopolitan, mojito, and Tom Collins have the lowest calories of cocktails I know how to make for someone who doesn't like the taste of alcohol, aside from the easy choice, which is rum & diet cola.

    And you just contradicted yourself.

You can lose weight and tone, and meet your minimal goal, or you can not adhere to your calorie deficit, continue to do something simply because all the "cool" kids are doing it, and NOT achieve your goal.

Perhaps if you feel you HAVE to drink to have a good time with your friends, or to enjoy a social setting, you could look at your weekly calories instead of your daily.

    *shrug* Balls in your court.

Straight liquor or mixed with water or diet soda. You want to get the most alcohol with the fewest calories. Avoid beer and wine.

I used to drink amaretto and soda (club soda) - they are 160cals each. Not terrible.

I always drink a spirit with sugar-free mixer, but I also always lose weight faster if I abstain from drinking.
