Just wondering!
Those who use pedometers or fitness trackers how many steps a day or miles a day are you doing? Also, what is the most you have ever done?

    I usually get about 10-11000.
My husband works in a factory and walks almost 19000 a night.

varies 5000 to 12000 avg, if am outside the house it can be anywhere between 18000-27000.
consider 27000 as my highest and about 3000 as lowest.

it IS helpful tho. it lets the OP know that there are conflicting opinions on the value of the steps per day fitness concept and that she'd be wise to investigate further into the subject.

    i average 14000 per day

I average 11-12000 steps a day. Least I've gotten done in a day is 9000 and most I've done is about 27000 thereabouts. That's what I've observed since using a pedometer, at least.

My daily goal that I usually meet is 20,000. If I'm tired I'll cut it in half and go 10,000 to 12,000.
  • Thanks for all of your useful replies. I'm not going to the trouble to quote, but I will say this. I was asking just to see what other people are doing. Steps equal distance. That is why asked for steps OR MILES. Some people like to focus on their thousands others like to focus on miles. That's why I asked for either. Second, stride length determines the distance for your steps. Short people have to take more steps per determined distance than a tall person. So again, steps vs miles. Depending on what your focus is.
As far as I am concerned I have my goals set to no less than 14,000 steps per day, but I have been getting in as much as 20,000 since the weather has been nice. That is a little less than 8 miles for me because as a short person my stride is a small one. Of course, 90% of that is done inside. I am not above pacing the floor to keep moving. LOL

Then why comment? No input other than that is pointless.

Weekdays usually 11-20,000, depends on what workout I do, but I walk a lot because I live in a city and don't drive. On weekends, usually 5-7,000 unless I'm doing something especially active.

I aim for 15,000 per day. It's high enough to always require a little extra effort to achieve it.

Average 11k per day, but at least 3 days a week I clock over 15k with tennis. Mileage varies, but most days I am around 5 miles.

I just got my fitbit 2.5 days ago and I, on purpose, did nothing to change my daily routine just to get a baseline. Without working at it in ANY way whatsoever, I do between 3-4K per day. Tomorrow I begin working at it in earnest.

I try to stick to 7k/day as long as I work out on that day. Non workout days I try to do 10k+.

Usually about 11,000 - 13,000 a day. Best day a little over 17,000. I've only had my Fitbit Zip for about 3 weeks, but I make sure I get a least 10,000 a day. I can see I wasn't doing that prior to getting the Fitbit.

My "official" goal is at least 10,000 steps per day but I generally do 12K-15K daily and a bit more on days that I don't go to the gym.

That does include my exercise though.
  • Thanks for the replies. It's cool to see what others are doing. Now that I have my bad knee in working order again I have made an effort to increase my minimum at least each month. I suffered with a terrible pain and immobility in my left knee for a few years. I finally decided it had to be a baker's cyst from all I was able to find on this pain. The dr was useless when I sought diagnosis and treatment. In an effort to just do less sitting I took the chair away from my desk and put the computer on an elevated surface so I could easily use it while standing. I realized about 2-3 months later that my knee has improved by 100%. It is my personal opinion that sitting too long and often was causing a recurring cyst. Now that the pain is gone I am able to do some real exercise. It sure does feel good!

I'm quite stubborn and try to get my 10,000 every day. I may miss one day a week if I have my rest day on the weekend though. On those days, it might be around 4,000 and other days about 10,000-15,000.

I aim for 10K but have a desk job. I work in a hospital as an educator so some days I get up to the floor a lot. But I can definitely tell when I am "desking" too much and get only 5K or less on a bad day.

Normally around 20000, I have dogs that need one long walk per day. I also run, so today I clocked 40k.
