A stationary bicycle burns a ton of calories, and you can watch television while you do it. Two hours should easily burn 1,000 calories.0

You must be really young! Anyone over the age of 30 would know that's a picture from years before I was even born. Besides, I'm not looking for 1,000 calorie burns. I'm very happy with 5-600 a day.0 -

The question as to why people want to do what can be excessive exercise if not properly fueled is a legitimate question. Few people need to seek out 1000 calorie burns to lose weight ... ok, none if you want to be accurate. Those of us who routinely burn that much do so from long bike rides ... long runs ... not something on a whim.
The OP is an 18 year old with less than 20 pounds to lose who also binge eats (if you look at her posting history).

Sometimes people ask because they think they have to burn off everything they eat. They hear the phrase "eat less than you burn" and don't realize that the burn part refers to calories burned just by existing.
I don't think the question was derogatory. Sometimes context is needed in order to answer completely.0 -

Well, what are your goals?
1000 calories is just a lot. It takes a pretty huge amount of exercise to burn that much. I can generally burn about 300 calories per hour. Maybe 400 if the exercise was really intense cardio. Most of the time when someone asks how to burn a huge amount like that it's because they have some kind of misconception, which is why people are asking why you want to burn that much.0 -

Swim a mile will burn in excess of 1000 calories. Get an ap called swim a mile in 6 weeks to help you break it down into bite size chunks. Tbh I ended up running over the 700 m in the first week and simply doubled it. As I was feeling like I could keep going on. If you are not good at front crawl..do backstroke.. And work your front crawl in bit by bit. Hike a good hill for a few hours also adds up to a good calorie workout. To calc them..use map my hike. You can add the lap swims manually and it calcs the calorie burn. Both hikes and swims will then sync to myfitnesspal. Best way tbh

It's different from person to person. For me, I do cardio 4x a week and weight training 3x a week and that's going great for me.0 -
Rather than trying to find an exercise that burns X amount of calories, maybe try and find something you enjoy and will stick with.0

I have a Garmin that I use for swimming which also estimates calories burns while swimming. It tracks pace and distance. While it is also just an estimate, I've yet to burn 1000 calories swimming and I rarely swim under a mile. Usually it is between 1.25 and 1.5 miles.
Not even close to 1000.

Swimming at competitive speeds doesn't burn 1000 calories per mile for a 180 pound male. Swimming at the much more leisurely pace most of us do laps in doesn't come close to 1000 calories per mile.0

Okay, then what would be a good goal for burning 20 pounds as soon as possible? I eat about 1200 calories a day and I have my weight lifting class monday-friday with a very light day wednesday.0

Last weigh in was last monday and it was 129.4 but I have pigged out hard this weekend so it will be around 131-132 probably0

Let me guess, you set MFP to lose two pounds per week and it gave you a daily goal o 1200 calories ... am I right?
MFP's total includes the deficit to lose weight. With 20 or so to go ... one pound per week, and soon to drop to 1/2 pound per week, is a reasonable loss goal. Trying to create an even larger deficit through huge exercise burns without eating more to balance things out is unhealthy and potentially dangerous.
