3lb in 3 days? Not great or sustainable. Healthy weight loss is 1-2lb a week. Sounds to me like you are not eating enough. 1200 is a very low calorie intake especially if you are exercising. The fact you are claiming you feel hungry to me suggests your body is telling you it needs more fuel.

I don't know if it works but I have a colleague who's going to try this thing called SlimSip. It's a 9 calorie drink from Boots which has got a load of fibre in that is supposed to expand in your stomach and fill you up. You take it half an hour before meals and it's supposed to mean you only eat half the amount. £20 for 30 sachets though and you're supposed to drink it before every meal!

Thanks to all of you. My calories are 1200. I think the best thing for me to do is just wait a little longer. My stomach needs to shrink. LOL and then I won't be so hungry.

Hate to break it to you, but I think the whole 'stomach shrinking' thing is a myth; usually when people think their 'stomach has shrunken' it is either down to them eating more nutritionally dense foods or getting used to a new eating routine. Also, I do agree with those people that think 1200 is a bit low and being hungry is probably your body's way of telling you it needs more fuel. Do you eat back your exercise calories?

I find tea is a great filler between meals though :)

I am finding that as the days pass, I am less hungry. I really do think there is something to the stomach shrinking thing. Or, maybe it's more the brain/stomach thing. It adjusts to getting less food in a mental and physical way.
I am a very healthy person. I have researched a lot and in rider for me to lose the weight that I want, 1200 calories a day is what I need to do. I realize that 3 lbs in 3 days is too much. I am sure it will slow down. But, I needed that jump start to motivate me.

You are right in that your stomach does not shrink - BUT there is a change in your perception of fullness. Your hunger signals change and you become satiated on less food. It takes a bit to adjust and people think their stomach is shrinking in that time.

Why wouldn't the stomach contract if continually underutilized? It definitely can grow in capacity greatly with proper training.

It is definitely a brain stomach thing. You are teaching your body to tell your brain that you are satisfied on less (and your brain to know that less is satisfying). The key is to provide it with the nutrients to actually be satisifed.

I'm not sure there is a physical way to shrink a stomach other than getting a part of it removed. It seems to be a figure of speech that a lot of people take literally in most cases. XD

Are you cutting carbs? When I first lowered my carb ratio, I was ravenous. Maybe it is the "withdrawal" symptoms that you are reacting to. The constant hungry feeling went away in week 2 of the lower carb eating. I'm pre-diabetic though so you might react differently.

OK, I don't mean to be rude, but this is some real talk for you.

You didn't do enough research if you think that it's a "very healthy" idea to eat far too few calories on a "specific" (see: Named, also Scam) diet and that it would be better to take dangerous appetite suppressants than to change course and pursue a sustainable plan.

You very likely do not need to eat only 1200 calories to "lose the weight you want." You can lose weight at any deficit from your NEAT. Deadlines aren't part of sensible weight loss. Those who aren't patient are almost always doomed to fail.

Frankly, I'm a little suspicious of your dodge on the questions about your stats (age, height, current weight) and exactly what this "specific" diet is. (Anything called "The ____ Diet" is almost always a bad idea, by the way) Your "please don't tell me to eat more?" No. You need to eat more. I'm not going to lie to you and avoid that truth just because you prefer to think you know better.

That three pounds is probably water weight. Or joy.

Flippy1234 I am new to MFT and just reading through all the posts they seem to be offering sound advice. I am a 67 year old female and require much less calories than a younger person and even I am on around 1400. 1200 is the lowest amount of calories any responsible diet site would suggest. The appetite suppressants are actually amphetamines (speed) which explains why addicts are thin and are able to do without food. They are highly addictive as as another member suggested are well avoided. Obviously you have to do what is right for you. However if you are eating insufficient fuel for you body you will plateau and your body will go into survival mode and start storing your food as fat to copy with the famine it perceives is happening. Good luck.

OK, I am 5'4" at 130 lbs. I am 50 years old. I am not new to nutrition or anything else my friend. I am not on a named diet. It was one developed for me by a nutritionist. I was thrown off my horse last August. I had to have knee surgery and have not been able to exercise for a long time. That inactivity plus being 50 has thrown me into a tough place weight and shape wise. So, with that, I had to adjust. I have tried cutting calories, etc...nothing worked until now. Therefore, I feel that I am on the right track. Based on all I have looked at, my weight, BMI, etc...I should be at 1200 calories to lose. I am adjusting. I have succumbed to that "not eating enough" thing in the past. Yea, not for me. So, I was just hoping to get some advice from those out there that have maybe tried something other than "eating more of this or that" that may help. Nothing harmful I might add. I am a very clean eater...My ideal weight for my frame is about 120-123.

Water is the best "appetite suppressant" I've found. If I'm drinking enough water, I'm far less hungry than usual.

Also, tons of the products touted for this purpose have not been evaluated for true safety/efficacy. Hell, even some of the stuff that gets through all that ends up being horribly bad for us. Please do your research and be safe. :)

Thank you. Through all of the discussions, I have decided NOT to take anything. I am doing much better on my hunger and am drinking lots of water and tea. It helps!

OK, in that case, I apologise. 90% of the people who trot through here on 1200 per day looking for appetite suppressants for their "specific" diet are people with higher TDEEs than can sustain their goals...which tend to be something like "lose 20 pounds by my friend's wedding next month." (to mention a thread that's going on right now, LOL)

At your age and height, 1200 isn't out of bounds. I'd still STRONGLY discourage any appetite suppressant usage. Try drinking enough water, and also try hot tea (no sugar), black or green, herbal or flavored, whatever you enjoy. I find that hot tea helps me beat the munchies better than cold drinks, but your mileage may vary.

Also try increasing the fat and protein in your diet over the course of a day. Just bumping up to full fat dairy could help you feel more satisfied with what you are eating for longer.

Finally, do try to incorporate what exercise is permitted with your injuries. That could help you "earn" a few extra calories to get you through the day.

    Good luck!

You will get used to feeling hungry. Before I started changing my diet, I used to always binge right before bed which resulted in me experiencing terrible heartburn. For the past 2 months, I've made sure I didn't go to bed until at least 3 hours after my last meal or snack and it definitely helped with the heartburn. However... I was SO hungry! And it definitely sucks going to bed feeling hungry... But my body slowly got used to it and now I feel perfectly fine going to bed even if I eat 5-6 hours before I go to bed!

Just do things to get your mind off the hunger, drink lots of water, and eat small meals and snacks at 2-4 hour intervals and eventually your body will get used to it.
