Life was a lot less stressful when I wasn't aware of just how many calories were in all the things I used to eat! But being fat sure made life pretty crappy.

So true. I am one of those who went from healthy/athletic to cooped up from an accident. Got bored, tired, didn't care much and ate without giving it any thought. Forty lbs later, you see a photo and freak out.....so turning it around is a big deal. I do miss not having to plan for anything though. I totally agree though....being healthy again is soooo much better than feeling crappy!!!

if you are "stressing out" over planning and/or food choices then you are doing it wrong.

I think wanting to eat the entire pizza, but now actually knowing the calories in it, to be stressful. Or just wanting to eat ice cream for every meal, but knowing that you'll *feel like* you're starving to death if you actually stay inside your calories, to be very stressful as well. Doesn't mean you're doing it wrong necessarily. Learning to discipline yourself can be frustrating.

I don't have a least favorite part of healthy living though. I feel my best when I'm staying active all day, every day, and getting good food in my body.

Feeling compelled to eat more protein. I didn't realize how little I was consuming before.

    Not eating whatever I want.

    same here...
I so badly want that cheescake that's sitting in my freezer for dessert tonight. But no amount of exercise today is going to make it fit into my calories

Not being able to eat anything i want anytime i want in any quantity i want. Also having to prep meals everynight rather than eating out and eating whatever and in any quantity i want.

Yes, yes, yes. I can't agree with this enough.

Also guilt or itchy feeling I get when I can't exercise or don't meet a particular exercise goal for the day if I did.
I love it for the most part. The only thing I sometimes miss is my ignorance. Sure I can still go have a blowout day and not log anything, but I still know about how many calories I've eaten and whether I was really short on protein. Once you know, you can't go back to not knowing.

Oh, I found some. Ditto these.

The way people look at me as if I'm being "snooty" for choosing not to eat or drink something to stay within my calories.

That's just cruel and unusual punishment! Can't you just eat what the rest of the family is eating, just less of it??

I feel guilty because we don't really buy any fun kid food. I don't want her to grow up obese like I was, but, I do want her to experience a full life with all the silly little treats that are part of childhood, just in moderation. Unfortunately, she has a crappy mom who will eat ALL the kid food instead of eat in moderation.

You AREN'T a "crappy mom". You are giving your child the best gift possible - a healthy upbringing for her, and a healthy life for you. The choices you are making are POSITIVE not negative and you know that. Give yourself tons of credit.

Before I got fat and unfit my wife and I were both active, fit, healthy parents. Our kids did not grow up with junk food or soda or regular trips to McDonalds. Trust me they grew up just fine and neither likes junk food now. Sure they'll eat a burger and have a soda, but it isn't food they crave. Not once in all the time they were growing up (now 15 and 18 - super fit and athletic) did our positive lifestyle choices cause them angst with their friends. If a party happened to have junk food or was held at a McD, we didn't object.

As for soda... we buy it for holiday occasions. It's like cake. It's a treat, not something to have every day. The kids can learn this.

The kids internalise that such treats are meant to be exceptions, not the norm. That's a very positive lesson that might just last a lifetime. What a gift you are giving your child.

The worst is feeling awful when I don't get chance to exercise! I've just gone back to work after maternity leave, and this last week I was unable to exercise Mon, Tues, Wed as after work I had to collect my three kids, then go home to do everything as my husband was on late shift, so I had no chance for the gym. I had just over a year on maternity leave, a year of being able to exercise every day if I wanted to.

Apart from that, nothing has changed, and I love having a healthy lifestyle.

This, everyday. Protein is my worst macro but I know I feel better if I get with 80% of my target.

The planning. I don't hate it, but this healthy stuff takes serious organization skills! I travel/fly for work to client sites and when I'm not doing that, I am working at home. Which is a blessing and a pain, as my schedule is never the same.
So I plan for Crossfit most mornings and yoga a few nights. Or if I have meetings/calls that overlap CF class times, I run in the afternoon, or go to the CF lunch class... Making my meal and my husbands other meal.
And when I'm traveling I am always planning ahead and researching CF gyms to drop-in at, mapping the time to get there, etc, or looking for hotels with gyms that will work or have safe running routes. Make sure I pack my workout gear, etc. (one time I forgot tennis shoes and did my own yoga routine and rounds of burpees in my room)! And then packing snacks in my bag in case I can't find healthy stuff at the airport...and making sure I don't slip up and eat crap at client dinners,"Salmon and salad, salmon and salad." I feel overwhelmed just writing about it!

    It's a lot. But it's worth it ;)

Shaving my legs. When I was fat I worn pants all the time, so I shaved them occasionally in the winter and once or twice a week in summer if I was going to wear capris. Now I have awesome legs and I want to wear skirts all year round and shorts in the summer, I have to shave them almost every day.

And the dealing with vanity sizing. I'm always annoyed that in some of my favourite stores that they never carry many small sizes (especially in petite sizes). Finding a 2P or 4P (which is my pants size now in their vanity sized stuff) in a place like Kohls is like finding a unicorn.

My least favourite thing is purely how quickly you lose your fitness and exercise wins if you go off piste for a while, and in similar vein how annoyed I get with myself when I have a great week but then end up having a boozy weekend when seeing lots of friends... It's so hard to get straight back into it. But that just means I need to learn to have some willpower and not let socialising totally blow my goals out the window
