I'm joining you at a loss for words.0

Jeez...
I love this quote: "But one of the trial's organisers, trainee specialist Dr Debi Prasad, rejected this, as the device was only temporary, being removed once patients reached their goal weight, and because they would be supported to adopt healthier eating habits and to do more physical activity."
Right, because isn't that the key to successful weight control. Lose the weight without having to actually learn to moderate anything and then just stop using the tool once you hit your goal.

I think there's an Adipose joke in there somewhere. I didn't read through the article, since I was unfortunate enough to see a video about it once, and that was traumatic enough.0

I have words but they violate the terms of use.
Wow.0 -
I have a word - "bulimia".
I mean oh my GAWD it's a HAND PUMP. Can't we just go back to the innocent times of laxatives and fingers down throats?0 -
So... basically you puke out a tube that's attached to your stomach. Ew.
Imagine going out on a date with that thing...
"Before we continue making out, I need to pump out the dinner we just had."0 -
Here's a word.....ewwwwwwww!!0
-
Oh, my God...you're kidding me.
I...I just...holy cow.0 -
Are you sure that's not The Onion? Or the New Zealand version?0
-
I... can't. I just can't.
Just...0 -

I've tried to sit down and read the article but I just can't make myself...0

The story is taking too long to load on my tablet, so I shut it down....thank goodness, because from the descriptions here, I don't think I want to read it.So... basically you puke out a tube that's attached to your stomach. Ew.

This sounds like glorified bulimia to me. It's been almost 30 years since I used to make myself throw up, and I don't ever want to go back there in any fashion whatsoever.

In a world where billions are starving, that's flat out immoral.

I've seen it described elsewhere as a last-ditch measure for desperate, morbidly obese people. Perhaps their only hope.0

There are better last-ditch measures.

Pretty much.

I honestly feel like it would be healthier to wire someone's mouth shut. And lock them in a basement. I mean I'm not a doctor but...ugh seriously it is just bulimia. How long do you think it would take someone to start throwing up once they get their stomach pump removed?0 -
This is outrageous. How is it teaching anyone anything? Like moderation, portion control or healthy eating? It is not. Its like go eat the junk and basically throw it up in 20 minutes. Makes no sense.0

We are mad jinxing each other right now!0

That's true, and you could say the same of anyone who is overweight to any degree, and therefore by definition taking more of the earth's resources than they need. (And yes, I include myself in that category.)
One member of my family finds this to be the most powerful motivation for maintaining a normal weight, far more powerful than wanting to look better or improve their health. (This person never allows himself to deviate from his desired weight by more than a few pounds.)0 -

They wouldn't even have to throw up. It's basically a messier version of chew & spit.0 -

There are much better last ditch efforts that at least have a much better chance of building modified eating habits due to decreased capacity for it.

I've seen gastric bypass, diet pills that physically curb hunger, diet pills that work directly on the brain, talk therapy, hypnosis and more all described as a the morbidly obese population's only hope. "Only" implies just one so apparently, all of these descriptions have been inaccurate so far. Pretty sure this one will be the same. Also pretty sure many, many people will jump on it if it's approved.
I can get behind one or two of these methods at least for a segment of the population, even if drastic and permanent (such as gastric bypass, so please don't anybody freak out over my having mentioned it) but this? This is just disgusting. And I don't just mean physically. It makes me sick in every way. Literally glutting oneself and then puking it back through the stomach? Jesus Christ. I'm ashamed to be a human right now.

Yeah.
Like, say...eating at a reasonable, doable calorie deficit it.
I mean call me crazy.

So you still eat to excess, because if you didn't you wouldn't need it, then you attach a tube to a pump and extract 30% of the food you ate....hahaha. patients must be motivated and monitored, because???? if they weren't they probably wouldn't lose weight, amiright.0
