My hair is falling out constantly as well as breaking. The tips are so dry now. Before I joined MFP in January, my hair was silken, smooth, soft. What has been your experience?

Sweating hasn't really affected my hair at all. Are you dieting as well? Maybe you're not getting enough nutrients?0
-
That sometimes happens when people don't eat enough and overdo their workouts.
What is your daily Caloric goal (and do you hit it?), as well as macro breakdown and exercise?0 -
I believe that healthy hair, nails and skin come from within. If you aren't hydrated enough or not eating more nutritional foods, it effects your body. Are you drinking enough water?0
-
if anything, i would think the oils from sweating would be GOOD for hair.
My thought are a dietary/vitamin/mineral imbalance of some kind....0 -
it won't be from sweat it will be from not eating enough. u are probably malnourished. and yes u can be malnourished and not underweight if u cut too many calories for too long.0

Second the bolded.
FWIW, I workout at least once, sometimes twice a day, and I don't have hair issues. I did have hair issues when I was undereating and running too many miles a week years ago.0 -

I sweat a lot when I work out, my pony tail is always soaking wet when i'm done. As soon as I get home from the gym I take my hair out of my pony tail and spray a leave-in conditioner in my hair and allow it to dry on its own.0

That brings up a pretty good point. It sounds like you (OP) have started exercising in January, too. As such, do you actually wash - not just get it wet in the shower - your hair more often?0 -
I agree that I don’t think sweating is the issue. Are you getting enough nutrition?
On a side note, I love coconut oil masks for my hair. I use lots of it to cover all my hair, keep it on for as long as I can, and then wash it out. I can’t say for certain, but I think it really helped.0 -
Nope. Do you have low iron? Hair loss is a typical symptom.0
-
This is typically more of a nutrient deficiency thing, not a sweat thing...0

I'm not sure if I do.0 -
Nope. I was looking at it today and its absolutely fine, if anything it might be in better shape because of being on a better overall diet. I perspire at the gym, so no sure that has anything to do with it. Dont have a pony tail though.0

Do you wash your hair more often now? I find if I wash my hair every day it gets dry and feels like straw. I rinse it out after a good sweat sometimes, but I only shampoo it every 3 to 4 days.0

If you don't eat fruits/veggies, at least take a multivitamin. Hair loss is a symptom of malnutrition. If it continues, you should see your doctor for some blood tests to find out which nutrients you are missing out on.0 -

Are your nails weaker and break easily? If yes, this may well be a vitamin deficiency thing. I don’t like fruit/veg very much either and try to take a multivitamin. Keep in mind, too, that hair condition can be seasonal. I find, for instance, that I shed more in the spring/summer.0 -

Yep, just started taking a one a day for women. Hopefully it helps.Angelfire365 wrote: »Do you wash your hair more often now? I find if I wash my hair every day it gets dry and feels like straw. I rinse it out after a good sweat sometimes, but I only shampoo it every 3 to 4 days.
No i probably wash it every 5-6 days. I get tired and lazy. So I will try washing every 2-3 days instead to see if this will help.0 -
seconded on multi-vitamin! i take one with b supplement daily.0

It could be a lot of different things (if your nutrients are correct and you're not over-exercising, you should see a doctor). If your diary isn't open, open it and let some of these awesome people help you out.0

No - don't wash more often. That will probably dry it out more.0

I might just condition it or rinse it every 2-3 days.quintoespada wrote: »seconded on multi-vitamin! i take one with b supplement daily.
I should definitely invest in some B vitamins0 -
I don't think it's the sweat affecting your hair- It's the more frequent washing, stripping the natural oils from your hair. Try to shampoo less often, heat style less often, and use dry shampoo instead.0

Your diary isn't open but a lot of people dieting experience a lot of issues if they try to eat low fat. How much fat are you eating? You need it for hair, skin, joints- think like a lubricant.0
-
Also, if your hair is noticeably falling out, you should go to a doctor. That can be a sign of lots of underlying issues including thyroid dysfunction.0
