From Jan until now , I have lost 10 lbs and started 4 times a week run/walk in treadmill. And also being under my MFP calorie count why am not losing weight. Heard that it's healthy to lose 8 pounds a month.. Though I could see my inches coming off not very happy to see weight remains more or less same.. Any tips or advice?

It could be that your logging is inaccurate.

Sorry, could you clarify how long you've been the same weight, please?

I think about that sometimes but I try my best to portion control and eat .. I have been a rice water from my childhood as its a staple food in south of India .. Now j have switched to other healthy firms of carbs.. Even if I have to eat .. I eat one cup of cooked rice for lunch only..

Also I was told by one of the trainer (at ymca where I take one class over weekend) that if I am counting calories for 1200 them am on starvation mode and my weight won't come down as whatever I eat would be stored as fat..so I increased a bit of my cal level to 1400 and 1 lb came off but again battling the same issue of not losing weight.. I was near 200lb after my second baby.. Now down to 189...

I have the same issue. I FEEL like I've lost weight, and in some areas it looks like I've lost weight, but I weighed myself this morning and I am one pound more than what I was a month ago. It's frustrating and discouraging. Everything I read though says to not rely on the scale but to measure inches. It's hard not to sometimes.

Starting a new exercise program usually makes you retain water, that can mask weight loss. You're losing inches. Inches trump pounds!

If your weight is staying the same but inches are coming off, it may because, by running, you are building muscle in your legs that you didn't have before. A cubic inch of muscle weighs more than a cubic inch of fat, and also requires more calories to sustain itself. I think you are better off going by measurements, how your clothes fit, and how you feel unless you have access to a trainer who can do your body fat measurement for you.

Let's see, what matters more, losing inches, thus resulting in a visibly smaller you...

Or having an arbitrary number on the scale that nobody sees or knows except you go down?

With the exception of newb gains, you don't build muscle in a deficit.

    Two suggestions for you:
    1. Check out this group http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3817-eat-more-2-weigh-less
This will help you understand what the trainer was referring to about not eating enough.

    2. And read this posting http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
This is one of the best posts on MFP about what has to happen for you to be successful.

Oh yeah one other thing, you might want to open your diary, otherwise no one has any idea exactly what you are doing that needs to be corrected.

All the best in your weight loss Journey.

It's probably water retention that's masking the weight loss. Is the workout new? Or, does it leave you sore? If so, it's definitely water retention. Having a larger amount of sodium than usual before weighing in does the same. Carb-heavy meals also skew your actual weight. As long as you are eating at a deficit, it does not matter. And losing inches is way better than losing pounds.

Also, don't listen to anybody who tells you you are in starvation mode. Starvation mode doesn't exist.

This so this, the scales are such an unreliable gauge of fat loss because they don't take into account water weight in healing muscles, it's just a guide to be taken with a pinch of salt along with more important tape measurements. I would have inch loss over pound loss any day of the week because inch loss means I can fit into a smaller dress size and look slimmer, where as the number on the scales is only visible to me.

Apart from that make sure you're weighing your food accurately and logging everything you drink and eat that may seem negligible but can add up like condiments, tea and milk. Also alot of salt will result in water retention and effect the scales. But since you seem to be losing those all important inches I think you're doing a good job and just focusing on one form of measurement over another.

    Good luck x

Definitely my clothes fit better and it's not tight and uncomfortable as before.and I too feel some diff in my midsection and overall..Somehow I have this thought of seeing low numbers on scale every time I weigh..though I kind of understand that losing inches is more important ..
Thanks for all of your time so far for all suggestions..can't thank enough ..

I have been run/walking a while now ..the only weekend class I go is the boot camp challenge that I have been going for 2 weeks now..muscle soreness is there but better than first week..I want to get into strength training but not doing as I should and just 45 mins of walk/run 4 times a week..bring a vegetarian sometimes I get lost what to eat to feel satisfied ..slowly switching to eat more uncooked veggies and fruits ..it's overwhelming sometimes with a 3 yr old going to preschool and a 11 month old but am trying my best and have to keep pushing myself

Also is there a particular way to log foods in MFP? As I eat lot of Indian food, I try to search and log the more appropriate entry..? May be that's misleading me in terms of cal count..??

Don't even try to log the Indian dishes in the database. Pretty much all of them are wayyy off. Log all your ingredients individually.

That's probably part of your answer there as well. Water retention from the added exercise. Do you weigh yourself near the time of your bootcamp?

    Um...no.

I suggest you start a beginner strength training routine like SL 5x5 or Starting Strength. Even though cardio is great for CV health, it is not important for losing weight - only a caloric deficit is. The strength training will keep you from losing LBM. Also, as RGv2 said, the muscle soreness means you are probably retaining water.

With South Indian and vegetarian food, it becomes a little harder to hit your protein macro, and easier to over-indulge in carbs imo. This could be the reason you are hungry/unsatisfied. Maybe try upping your protein?
