Hey there. New and totally lost

Hi, I'm new like the title says so let's get down to it. I weigh about 300 pounds. I have 175 to lose, that's I'd like to lose. I'm not familiar with calories, or carbs or whatever else there is here. I don't know how to eat other than eating myself into an early grave. Sorry for the morbidness, but that's the truth of it. I'd love some friends to help me. Don't really have a support system here. My husband says I'm fine, but at 300 pounds I am definitely not fine.

Being new you have to start at the beginning and learn from there. First plug all your stats into MFP and get your calorie goal for the day. Start weighing and measuring all your food (it's time consuming and tedious at first, but once you get your major foods in your data base, things will start to go faster). It's important to have a good digital food scale--they are inexpensive. Register everything you eat, no matter how small, everyday and try to stay within your calories that are alotted. If you exercise, even walking, register it under "exercise". This will give you additional calories for the day. After you get that down, start reading the information for new members. Alot of it explains carbs, protien, fats etc. Now you're ready to watch your "macros" which are the nutrients you need everyday. These are located next to your calorie goal in your food diary.
Take things a step at a time and see how it goes. It doesn't matter how much you have to lose, it's just important that you start and learn, and commit to yourself. Many people have lost more than you want to on MFP and they will guide you. After awhile go to "reports" and you will fine lovely graphs of your progress. Never quit. That's the big secret. Best of luck.0 -
Oh how iunderstand my husband says Iove you what size you are stop obsessing over weight / food but he doesn't understand that until I'm happy with myself it is a issue
But I've stick to it despite what he says!
Good Luck you can do it0 -
Defintiely follow Snowflake's advice. Like you, when I started I knew almost nothing about calorie counting, macronutrients etc. MFP has a wonderful supportive community and there are lots of users (like snowflake) that have shared their wisdom and experience. Use them

It is tough to work on yourself when you don't have the support of those who love you. Keep in mind that your husband might be insecure. Is he also over weight? He might feel that if you lose weight you will no longer want to be with him. He could fear that you will then become attractive to or attracted to other men. It isn't uncommon for men to do this. So unfortunately you may have a lot of work to do in reassuring him that this won't be the case.
Everyone has given you great advice on how to get started. I just want to say that yes you can do this. I was in your place once. Well over 300 pounds and I just didn't care for a long time. Having a support group around you of people who help you to feel good about yourself is important. This forum can help with that. But this is really all up to you. You will have hard days you will sometimes fail to meet your goals. Your weight will sometimes go up instead of down. It will be hard. KEEP GOING. You are worth it and you deserve to feel good about and in your own body.0 -
You've taken the hardest step- admitting that 300 lbs is not fine.
Having a husband who says he loves you no matter what you weigh is both a curse and a blessing- but for me (I have one at home, too) it's a curse. So my best advice to you is to not rely on him or anybody else for support. He loves you to pieces, but enabling your bad food choices isn't going to help you.
* Log in to MFP daily and record EVERYthing- even the entire bag of chips if you just couldn't control yourself. Actually entering that and seeing the calories you've consumed is sobering.
* Develop a regular exercise routine- and put it in writing. It's tough to stick with a plan in your head, but a lot easier to see it written down. Commit to exercising a few days a week and then build up to exercising daily if you can.
Don't let anything derail you from committing to your success... not lack of time, not family parties, not your husband or kids. You are the only one who controls what you put into your mouth. Take ownership of that and then enjoy the success that will follow.0 -

then he probably doesn't understand how hard it is for you. He can try but it's a personal struggle really0 -
My boyfriend tries to help me out, and I appreciate it but I know what's best for me. Just like you know what's best for yourself. It's nice to have support but sometimes we have to start this journey solo!0
