So I'm new to this site, no clue what calories are, but this site gave me a daily goal of 2740 calories a day. That seemed too much so I changed it to 1740. Should I have? Is that too few?
Should say I'm 5'7" 300 lbs looking to try and lose 175. I know It's a long process and It will probably be years before I get to my goal. I'm just confused on the whole thing.

That would take another two pounds off a week (assuming you log everything accurately) on top of the goal you selected, which can be detrimental to your body. Stick with the goal MFP gave you, eat to it for a month, then evaluate your progress.

Stick to the MFP goal and weigh your food on a food scale and measure your caloric liquids with measuring cup!
    You WILL lose!

eat the number that MFP gave you and see what happens after to three or four weeks….

Do you have a food scale? I would suggest investing in one to weigh all solids...
