Why do (some) men.....
Try lifting weights way heavier than what they can clearly handle? By clearly handle, I mean with proper form/posture. I see this all the time at the gym; a guy will walk in and go straight for the heaviest weight. Then he will heave it with horrible form, often doing 4-5 reps only. You can always tell men who know what they are doing from those that are trying to break their spine doing a tricep extension with a dumbbell half their body weight.
Conversely, most women tend to always reach for the pretty pink toddler sized weights.

This goes for multiple things men try to do without much knowledge. :smooched:0 -

More like a completely random and totally gossipy observation; hence posted in chit chat.0 -

Actually they don't seem to be thinking at all...0 -
It is a generalization, but unfortunately true in many cases. The people I've encountered at the gym have pretty bad form on most of their lifts.
And yes, I should be minding my own business.0 -

Note the lack of the generalizing term ALL.0 -

A better question would be why do you care what other people are doing? It has no effect on you other than possibly making you feel a bit insecure lifting in the "Light-weight section", and by "light weight" I don't mean Ronnie Coleman "Light-weight" I mean colored dumbbells "light weight"0

To impress the ladies of course and intimidate other potential mates of course.0

Why do you care about what other men do in the gym!!!
Focus on your workouts and goals!!!0 -

Totally agree with last statement... hence I will wait until they hurt themselves and then dial 911. ;-)0 -
Nothing wrong with lifting weight you can only do 5 reps with.
Now, the form is a different issue..0 -
When I'm done doing my "arched back super heavy bench press" I like to run around the gym, squawk, and wave my arms at the other lifters. Then I walk by the treadmill row with my chest puffed out.0

Not a guy and kinda hard to miss a scrawny dude struggling with a 50lb weight when they are right in front of you.0 -

Yes. Its the form that's the issue.0 -

Oh, and as a side note, it is important to realize that you may not know what each persons fitness goals are. If they are looking for hypertrophy and have already fatigued their muscles, they may be using the poor form in order to squeeze out just a few more reps to further the fatigue. I don't necessarily agree with this approach, but it's their workout, their body.0

Nope. Those types are recognizable by their usually good form. Characters I am talking about are in a class of their own. I do believe its what you first said; ego and/or lack of knowledge.0
