Has Myfitnesspal advertised fattening food to you?

I just saw the above advert in my feed. Are you getting fattening food adverts in your MyFitnessPal home page? And if so, why are they allowing this?

They don't approve every ad. They place an ad feed on the site. These ad services serve up ads based on a number of factors, some of which are individualized based on browsing history, etc. (that's why you can look at a dress or pair of shoes online and then those shoes will haunt you for the next week in web ads). While I'm sure they have some control over what keywords and product categories feed through to their site, it's not 100% foolproof, esp. with individualized ad serving.0

Ok this does make sense, however I can honestly say that I never look up fattening food so I am not sure where these particular algorithms stem from other from me obsessively searching on how to lose weight and resist binging. Lol0

Make it fit in your calories if you like that kind of thing

Oh..with me? No way. That looks about 1000 calories and I couldn't survive on that and just a little bit more on the side. I would starve and then binge.0

looks to be a tourist advert, prefer that to all the fake malware scan nonsense but I can see why some wouldn't want any food adverts thrown at them.0

ETA: My feed knows me. It's currently serving up ads for coffee and beer.

My main issue with seeing this picture is now I am thinking of crispy fish sandwiches whereas before I was thinking of blueberries.0

For me, it is any high calorie food that by it's intense flavors (sugar, fat and salty), empty and non-filling calories, I end up:
A. Still feeling hungry
B. Wanting to eat more because the flavor was so intense
C. Having my insulin levels drop rapidly after eating simple carbs and being instantly hungry right after

(Which all listed above would cause me to binge and overeat)
I could probably eat two of those and if I take one bite, I will want to.0 -

Actually this is over 500 cals...
Ketchup and mayo alone are approx 150
Lettus tomato would be 10 cal each so about 620 cal depending on brands used as each is different BEFORE accounting for how the fish was cooked ie: fried in oil or broiled in oven. Also note that many spices above 1/2 tsp have calories (2-5).
It's very important to count all those factors. This sandwich could easily be pushing the 800-900 mark!0 -
I don't think it should be an issue. You are going to be exposed to tempting food throughout life, so trying to make MFP a special cocoon where we are protected from photos of food doesn't really seem practical.
It's also likely not possible given how the ads work--as mentioned above, that ad is for travel, really.0 -
Oh heck yeah...
That is an hour ride right there for breaking even eating that sammich!
I'd hit that fo sho...

There is an option in settings to select to have them not use your browsing history for advertising. I checked it for settings for my account. I don't need to be haunted by everything I search for on amazon.LOL0

Well, any food could be fattening if you eat too much of it.
I have seen ads for foods like ice cream cakes, Oreo cookies, cheese slices on this site. Probably because I looked at something with those things.
The fish sandwich doesn't look particularly great/special to me. It just looks like it would be messy. If I thought it looked good then maybe I'd make my own version sometime. I wouldn't travel very far for a sandwich.0 -
The bread I use only has 70 calories per slice lol, skip the mayo and ketchup and the sandwich comes out to only 393 calories top it with a 70 calorie piece of cheese for 463 calories bam!0 -
You are giving a lot of power to a picture of a sandwich. Be stronger than the pixels.0

A Bermuda fish sandwich typically includes deep-fried fish fillets (not fish fingers), lettuce, tomato, Bermuda onions, cheese, hot sauce, tartar sauce and coleslaw, all piled onto raisin bread. No ketchup, no custard.

that sandwich looks disgusting
but I get your point, most food adverts are annoying af ....0 -
It says 'promoted by Bermuda tourism'
Like others have said, this is a tourism ad, technically, not a food ad.0 -

I get adult diapers and clothing. Still haven't figured out what I search that makes me think I pee myself but the clothes are spot on.
OP, I actually never get ads for food really.0 -
