a question for people on keto

Hello, i just started low carb dieting, on my third week now and already seeing the benefits.
My question is once you switch to ketones can you ever again eat any carbs again without regaining all the weight back? i'm not talking about stuffing yourself but maybe once in a while being able to eat a macaroon or have some roasted potatoes with your chicken roast.
What are your experiences? have you gone back to eating carbs after losing the weight?

I doubt the weight would pile back on, but after hearing about "carb flu", I would think cycling in and out of ketosis would suck.
There's a pretty active keto group: you might have better luck there (I'm not keto): https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1143-keto0 -
Do what you prefer, but a calorie deficit is going to be the best diet. You're going to regain a lot of water weight when you reintroduce carbs back into your system.0

If anyone regains all their weight when eating carbs again, they didn't lose any fat to begin with. A calorie deficit is what you need for fat loss. How you go about achieving that, be it low carb, keto, iifym etc is up to you.0

i've been on a calorie deficit for three months and hardly lost any weight, only after starting low carbing i started to drop weight. My guess after researching, adrenal fatigue.0

Have you tried to get your adrenals to take a nap?

If you weren't losing weight while eating carbs, you weren't eating at a deficit. Most likely you have lost a lot of water weight and that is making you "believe" that it is working. When it comes down to it, you have to figure out how to get yourself into a deficit.0

The keto magic is mostly a reduction in hunger and cravings. After 6 months, my appetite is still in check. I don't even bother to track calories anymore, and I'm still losing weight.
I can eat carbs in moderation without regaining the hunger/cravings, but I don't push my luck. Potatoes are probably fine -- they're satiating. Macaroons are something you might want to pass on, but it's your call. The sweet stuff doesn't even taste that good to me anymore, so I tend to ignore it.0 -

Well said.
You likely don't have adrenal fatigue, it's much more likely you were eating more than you thought or didn't give it enough time and consistency.0 -

thanks for answering the question, i don't know what's up with the other guys, i specifically said a question for people on keto not a debate on the low carb merits.
You do yours, i do mine and as long as it works lets keep the peace.

I think everyone agreed you need to do what is best for you. The fact remains, you need a caloric deficit to lose weight. Period. It doesn't matter how you achieve the deficit, but it's required.0 -
Because people don't need to be on Keto to know how it works... sorry that you thought that.0

When you are adapted you won't be interested in those items so much anymore. So if you decide to have some, it will be super easy to have just a small amount. But I recently had a higher, by low carb standards, lunch and I didn't feel well the next day. I am not interested in doing that again!
I'm on keto for the long haul. I intend for this to be my way of eating from now on. I don't miss the sweets or carby foods at all and before I started keto I was the kind of person to find any excuse to go to the store so I could get candy and I would eat it in the car before I got home. I would do that several days a week. The cravings were intense!0 -

So? So only a person who eats keto are the only people who know that you gain water/lose water depending on carbs? Or they may be the only ones that know you need a deficit to lose weight regardless of diet?

I lost fat on keto. And felt great. I didn't find the diet sustainable for the summer, due to my travel and other plans. However, I am mostly eating at maintenance and including carbs and I have not gained all the weight back. Just a little water weight.

I've been eating LCHF and in ketosis for a few weeks. The first couple of weeks weren't much fun as I adapted but it's quite enjoyable now. Like SunnyBunny said, I've lost all cravings in sugar and carbs. I still have interest in them and would love an ice cream or a Pepsi, but it is incredibly easy to ignore that now... Shocking since I haven't even been in ketosis for a month.
For example, last night I went to an all you can eat buffet. I went over my calorie budget (as planned) and filled up on shrimp, crab legs, guacamole, halibut, roast beef, chicken, cheese, a small helping of green beans and zucchini, and had a small sugar free cream cheese parfait for desert. It was lovely. I didn't miss the salads, nachos, noodles or buns at all.
I hope to not stop eating LCHF, because I am pretty sure I would slowly start eating too many carbs and sugars again, and I would overeat and put the pounds back on. Back to square 1. I find it easier to keep calories in a deficit with LCHF.
For someone who does not have issues with carb cravings, I think you would be fine eating a SAD diet as long as your calories remain at a reasonable level.
Good luck. And try the Low Carber Daily forum. There are lots of like minded helpful people there.0 -

I definitely notice a little water weight gain if I have a day where I add carbs back in. But it quickly goes.
I realise CICO is important, but I've lost 36kg/79.8lbs and eat more than when I was morbidly obese and still lose about as much as I did per week back then, when I wasn't doing low carb or keto. I was 115kg/253.5lbs and would lose about 1-1.8kg per week, esting 800-1200kcal per day. Now I average 1422kcal and lost 1.3kg this week, 1.1kg last week etc. Pretty good for someone under 5 feet tall. According to all the calculators, I'm sedentary and should lose 0.5-0.6kg per week. Keto really works with my body.0 -

I've spent the last couple years slowly replacing carby foods & drinks with low or no carb alternatives. Am generally between 30-60 gr and am probably in and out of ketosis. I feel better with plentiful magnesium potassium and sodium.
Calorie deficiency dictates the weight loss, but low carb helps me maintain the calorie deficit. I will eat at moderate carb level occasionally and it hasn't killed a very slow steady weight loss. I feel better at very low carb intake though, so it makes it easier to skip them.
