A parking space spectacle.
I laughed at her.
All that trouble and she saved herself having to walk an extra 20’.
(I was not involved, just watching)0 -

A random guy at a church function said I was gorgeous and introduced himself. I said my husband would appreciate that and thanked him for the compliment. I've never been called gorgeous in my entire life...2

A sweet voicemail from my mom’s best friend.
I’ve known her my entire life.
We threw her a party for her 87th yesterday.
It’s so difficult watching loved ones grow old with all their ailments.
It was a very sweet voicemail that I will be sure to keep.

Today was my third day as a paraeducator at an elementary school. Today during recess with the third graders, some of the children were playing a bit too rowdily on the slides (all in good fun, though - they weren't being malicious! Their idea of fun was just nearing a safety hazard), so I intervened and stopped their play.
I always feel very poorly when I need to ask a child to "stop" doing something (and, I try to avoid using that word - "Stop", or other negative words like "don't" or "shouldn't" - as much as I can, and instead try to find a way to iterate the behavior I DO want to see! Maybe that's a futile tactic. . . . I'm still learning!!).
I don't want to be a "buzzkill" or inhibit their creative play.
Anyway,
I didn't just want to stop their play and leave them to their own disappointment, so I quickly redirected their focus to something else they could do that might be equally as fun.
I explained a game to a few of the kiddos who were still hanging around after I pooped the party, telling them that I had learned it on the playground in my elementary years. I'm not good at giving instructions or explaining things in a concise way (as you can see in this post!), so I doubted they understood.
Well, as I discovered about five minutes later from my coworker, apparently something I said resonated with them.
"What game did you teach them?" my fellow coworker asked as she approached my side.
I was confused at first, then followed her gaze toward the group of children who looked like they were having a blast of fun - whatever they were doing.
I might be misinterpreting the entire scenario, but, after watching them for a bit, overhearing some of the things they'd chuckle and laugh in their game, I thought (or at least wished) that they were playing the game I had tried to teach them.
After a tough few first days, to say my spirits were lifted is an understatement - my heart was flying, carried on the wings of the delightful sight.
As I said, I might be completely wrong and the kiddos were just doing their own thing (which wouldn't surprise me. They're always finding new ways to have fun, all on their own),
but I have an inkling, and I at least like to think that they were recreating the game I taught them.
I like to think I somehow did something good for them today.
**I'm sorry to type so much - and it's all about something less-than excellent. This is one reason I smiled today though - and I thought that'd make it relevant to share here. (: **
Keep smiling, Everyone!
And when you can't find something to smile about, look harder!
