Nutrition Myths

For example...1 apple contains 19g of sugar. That equals 4.75 tsps of sugar. No thanks!
It's like saying you wouldn't eat a piece of cake because you wouldn't eat 1/3 of a cup of flour or whatever.
Even so, that's not even 80 calories.
Actually, that's exactly what I'm saying. Cake has no nutrional value and is full of sugar.
OK my nutritional myth peeve is people who say that sugar is bad for you and don't explain why. WHY?
I am resistant to insulin so I cannot have sugar. Other people can have sugar but it's just not for me. In my original post I was commenting on the fact that people say sugar in fruit is different than the sugar in candy. Sugar is sugar, it doesn't matter where it came from.0 -

The trick is to set all your clocks to another time zone before indulging, fools the body every time.0 -

This is false.
I had insulin resistance. You can, absolutely, have sugar.
I reversed my insulin resistance eating sugar and keeping my carbs around 150g/day. I still had coke at night, too.
You might find it easier to cut carbs, and avoid added sugar, but the statement that you cannot eat sugar is false.0 -

Assuming nutritional value means micro-nutrients as obviously cake has macronutrients or you wouldn't have to worry about eating it... What is wrong with something containing sugar?
I just prefer my calories come from meat or vegetables, not cake or cookies. If I could be that person who stays skinny no matter what they eat, I would eat ALL THE COOKIES! Unfortunately, sugar causes my blood sugar to rise and I am insulin resistant because of my PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome). This causes a bunch of horrible symptoms (especially for a woman) like abnormal hair growth, abdominal fat gain, infertility, and irregular periods. Sugar may be fine for other people, but not for me. When so many people hate on low carb diets, it pains me because it is literally the only thing that solves all my problems. Low carb diets work. It may not work for some people but for others, it's all they have.
Ah, if you have those kind of issues, it is understandable. There are people on the boards that seem to feel no one should have any carbs because they stopped having carbs and then they entered some kind of ketogenic nirvana.0 -

Sugar is sugar, but the more sensible suggestions to watch the amount of sweets you eat (not to eliminate them) are about calories and nutrition, not sugar. (See, e.g., the WHO, the AHA, the NHS.) Thus, candy and fruit are different. Obviously, fruit has calories, though, and one can eat too much of it (although relatively few do).
I'd say that "sugar is the devil" is a common nutrition myth.0 -

it's the internet. that's like a thing people say. i think she is incredibly concerned about you advising her to do something she considers extremely dangerous.
i mean still you should link some sources if you have them, cause .. like i was saying.. misinformation... confusion... nutritional myths...0 -
holy *kitten*, I just opened this thread becase I thought I would get a lol out of iy but I've never thought about the sugar in fruit. I mean, I know it has sugar but I didn't know an apple (ex) had THAT much! When my weight loss slows ive been just switching to fruits/veggies exclusively for a few days. it always helps me drop a few lbs. probably becase it puts me in a defecit, but I'm happy it works. all I've eaten today is watermelon and cherries lol. well if fruit is a no-go too I might stop eating lol0

The sugar in fruit is not evil. Keep enjoying your fruit if you like it.

You only pointed out my insulin resistance, not the PCOS. I will never reverse my PCOS, only treat my symptoms. It was extremely rude of you to trivialize my experiences by saying my statement is completely false. You have no idea what I go through on a daily basis.
If your solution is to calorie count and exercise in order to get to a healthy BMI and suddenly all of my problems will dissapear...you are wrong. I am already at a healthy BMI. I'm 5'3" and 130lbs. I still have insulin resistance.
@TheVirgoddess Sorry for the gtfo comment but I was really hurt by your statement.0 -

Adaptation to use ketones can reduce glucose requirements from 100g / day towards 50g / day in my recollection. They can not eliminate the need for glucose.0 -

You really cannot eliminate glucose no matter how hard you try unless you only eat meat! The carbs I do get are from vegetables or trace carbs from spices etc. I can keep under 20 if I try very hard. I am also only counting net carbs which means I do not count fiber.0
