So, my goal was only 100 miles for the month. It looks like I WILL be making this goal, but it's been crazy lately. We've had a lot of thunder storms lately. Today we had thunder storms, but I was able to get out and ride afterwards. It was nice, since the weather cooled down to about 86 after the rain.
I have to ride less than 35 miles this week to make my little goal, so I will definitely go over it a bit. Yay!!0 -
Next month will definitely be a bigger goal.0

March Cycling: 409.33 km (254.34 miles) = 21 hours 55 min
April Cycling: 384.15 km (238.7 miles) = 20 hours 35 min
May Cycling: 259.06 km (160.9 miles) + 45 min cycling inside
June Cycling Inside: 215 minutes on bicycle on trainer in basement = 3 hours 35 min
June Cycling Outside: 493.53 km (306.6 miles) in 1531 min cycling outside = 25 hours 31 min
July Cycling: 130 km in 405 min (6 hours 45 min) + 280 min cycling indoors (4 hours 40 min)
Goal ... more than July.
Aug 1 - chilly (9C) and windy (30 km/h gusting to 57 km/h) with a "feels like" temp of about 5C and a little blast of sleet just to keep things interesting.
And we cycled 38.5 km up the cycleway and back on our Thorn touring bicycles.
So looking forward to summer!!
Aug 8 - 27.93 km bicycle ride outside (85 min) ... and I even took it up to top speed once!
Aug Cycling: 66.4 km in 208 min + 0 min cycling indoors
Friday 14 August -- 60 min on the trainer (cycling indoors).
Saturday 15 August -- 12.95 km on a local "rail trail" of sorts. They pulled up the track by 1934 and I think the remaining trail just sat there for quite a few years after that before they finally made a mtn bike track out of it.
Kaoota Tramway | Greater Hobart Trails
It starts with a steep climb from where you park your car to the actual start of the track, but once you're on the track, the grade is not bad. The trail is in fairly decent conditions but does require a person to pay attention ... there are rocky bits and muddy bits, and 101 small tree branches to lodge themselves in a rear wheel.
But it was a good ride! Something a little different.
Sunny but quite chilly.
Aug Cycling: 79.35 km in 298 min + 60 min cycling indoors
Sunday 16 August -- 27.4 km at a pushing at my upper limit.
Aug Cycling: 106.75 km in 384 min + 60 min cycling indoors
Saturday 22 August - 22.5 km cycling outside on beaches, on trails, and on road (90 min)
Sunday 23 August - 60 min cycling indoors.
Aug Cycling: 129.25 km in 474 min + 120 min cycling indoors

So, my goal was only 100 miles for the month. It looks like I WILL be making this goal, but it's been crazy lately. We've had a lot of thunder storms lately. Today we had thunder storms, but I was able to get out and ride afterwards. It was nice, since the weather cooled down to about 86 after the rain.
I have to ride less than 35 miles this week to make my little goal, so I will definitely go over it a bit. Yay!!
Good job on reaching your goal. I might be a little short. Have been crazy busy, didn't realize it had been 2 weeks that I had no ride. Will try to hit it hard.. Have a ride in North Carolina on Saturday a 35 mile.0 -

I've had the same problem. At least 4 times this month I've had the bike in the car headed to the trail when the thunderstorms rolled in. Once I was only a mile into my ride when it happened so I had to turn around. On the bright side, last week I wound up setting a personal speed record sprinting back to the car trying to stay ahead of the dark clouds and thunder.
I'm not gonna make my goal this month.0 -
dang. you guys are all inspiring... I'm happy to be part of such a great group on here.0

Guess the 1x60 SST at the beginning of the two hours of climbing wasn't the best idea but got my training in. Crawled back the car for the next two hours with over one hour of straight descend. Only got up to 43.4mph and missed out on going faster because of tired legs and not able to hang with the front pack; s@#$% being in no man's land.)

Everyone on here is rockin it!
Nice work everyone!
I came across my first cyclocross race yesterday... my bike is originally a cross bike that I put road tires on.
I think next week I might swap out my road tires to my original cross tires and give it a spin at the races.
It looked like a great group of riders and extremely fun.
Hopefully I will hit my goal for the month on Saturday or Sunday. Will update numbers tomorrow most likely.
Cheers0 -
what kind of bike lock do most of you use? I heard the U lock type is best?
one of the local bike shops carry this brand
http://www.bikeguardlocks.com/products/u-locks/
I haven't looked at the other shop yet
any advice thanks. 90% of the time I ride my bike and then its back into the locked shed but want something in case i do stops somewhere0 -
I've done 150 miles a month, rain/ shine/ snow for the last 6+ years riding to work and back.
Seems car drivers have got progressively worse, need to have eyes on stalks now!.
Nice in summer, not so nice in winter...0 -
I made my goal, I made my goal!!! Okay, so it was not very ambitious - only 100 for the month. School started back and I went a couple of weeks only riding once on the weekend. I have finally gotten into a groove after 3 weeks of school and back at it. I have ridden 107.85 miles and a little over 60 was done in the last 5 days. I rode Sunday, Tuesday, and tonight.
I'm just really excited to make my goal and want to really challenge myself for Sept. I will be riding once more in August I am sure. Fridays are dedicated to football, so no Friday rides.
Sorry if I'm rambling too much.....I'm excited and still on my high.0 -
Congrats czymom123.0

@chaos2k Kyrptonite makes one heck of a lock and it is a ulock. Ulocks are harder to break than a typical cord lock. You typically want to get the smallest lock you can as it makes it harder for potential thieves to get something in between the lock and the thing holding your bike to try and break it.0
