Little inconveniences of being big.

I've noticed certain every day difficulties start to lessen as I lose weight, but still being big, they're still there. Here are a few, do you have any?

As a big dude my whole center of gravity is off, so for instance I can't just go from sitting on the floor to standing, because if I did it like a small person, I'd fall backward. I have to get my upper body in front of my knees, then go upward.

Also, I can't simply tie my shoes, because my belly prevents me from bending over enough to even reach my shoes, lol..I have to take off my shoe, tie it, put it back on.

Lastly I have to be strategic with where I sit at restaurants, because I often can't fit in a booth or at the bar if the stools don't pull back.

These are a few of the reasons I'm working hard to lose weight. Do you have any??

I tied my shoe the other day and was amazed. It was so natural that I forgot that at one time, I couldn't do it unless I sat down and propped my foot up, so I was truly amazed. I can cross my legs now, although I still can't wrap my ankles. Another 34 pounds to go and I'll be able to do so.

I used to lose my breath (like, couldn't breathe) if I was bending over for anything. The funny thing is that I thought something was wrong with me and it never occurred to me that it was because I was too fat.

And yeah, some chairs I couldn't fit in comfortably (like the curved ones at Cracker Barrel, which is hilarious when you see the kind of food they serve, you'd think they wouldn't have chairs for thin people).

Also, reflux and horrible recurrent stomach pains, which were probably due to my eating habits (and one of the reasons I'm still reluctant to eat too much fat).

I really don't miss any of that.

I can remember restaurant booths being uncomfortable. I have heavy family members and when we go out together, I try to remember to ask for a table instead of a booth because many restaurant seaters don't take into account how uncomfortable a booth is for some people (and a lot of people love booths so the seaters think they are doing you a favor giving you one instead of a table.)

Yeah a booth that's touching my belly is no beuno.
I see small ppl hop up stairs and like, get air between each step, and I'm like kung fu panda when I look at those same steps..

bending over at the waist instead of crouching by bending the knees in order to pick something up off the floor. Granted, this might be partly due to knee issues, but its definitely partly due to how much harder it is to get the weight back up off the ground from that closed-knee total squat position. I was taught that a "lady" never bends over at the waist and shoves her butt in the air. That, of course, is totally out of style now, but I still feel really awkward every time I have to do it.

I tipped over when I tried yoga at 250 pounds. Now, I can do it...very badly(!), but I don't tip over.

Getting in and out of cars is nothing now. I wear a seat belt. It was just too uncomfortable before.

I fit into amusement park rides that I couldn't ride before.

Crossing my legs!! I didn't realize how much I missed that. Also, sitting cross-legged or pulling my knees up to read in bed.

If I wanted to, I could fly coach. It's an option!

Carrying groceries! My arms are not strong and holding the bags away from my body...I made several trips. I can carry more (stronger arms and don't have to hold it all away from me.)

Changing the kitty litter is not a big chore.

    Etc.

As I walk around Disneyland I'm not always looking looking for the next place to sit down. Now I look at it as how many steps can I get in for the day.

There will be more options for clothes when I am no longer limited to Women's/Plus sizes.

This!!! I'm currently a size 44 jeans...I see all stores regularly keep 42, but rarely 44...can't wait!

It used to drive me crazy that all the companies had more colors for smaller people. I'd look at shorts on Ll Bean and think, "I wish they had that color in my size!"

I swear to God, as soon as I dropped out of the women's sizes, they added a bunch of colors to those sizes and NOT to the normal ones. So, then I couldn't get the colors I liked because I was too small.

It literally happened right when I made my switch.

    Grrr.

Fat lot of good that does me. I can buy (some) shorts, but the tiny, tiny inseams most stores stock are just appalling.

I hate flying (because of the hassle) but look forward to comfortably fitting into an airplane seat and not having to struggle to fasten the belt or ask for an extender next time I fly.

Those white, plastic lawn chairs and basically any chair that didn't look sturdy or was questionable, I stayed away from them. I stood a lot, which was heck on my knees and back. I would even sit on the floor or grass to keep from sitting on questionable furniture.

Getting up with a whole nother issue. LOL

Now, that I can sit any where, I still prefer to stand.

Last weekend my boyfriend REALLY wanted to go test drive a 2015 Camero (we live in Ohio and it would be his primary car, so basically a pipe dream, but whatever he wants..LOL. I'm currently 5'11, 150, and a size US 6 pants. I couldn't comfortably fit in the front seat, my butt was too big. I'd hate to know what that would feel like when I was 50lbs heavier. Needless to say, we didn't buy the car and he wasn't impressed...thank goodness, I'd hate to have to be lose 10 more pounds just to ride in it...LOL

My poor hubs has the opposite problem -he's long waisted but short in the leg, so his inseam is less than 29, but he buys a 30 inch inseam and they bag on his shoes and he steps on the back hem. Try finding a 42/30 pant in the stores.

I couldn't sit on the floor and play Legos with my kids without feeling like I was suffocating from all that extra weight pushing up on my lungs. Sitting in a chair and bending over to tie my shoes was become more and more of a problem for the same reason. I also had the restaurant table problem that many of you mentioned above.

The final thing that pushed me over the edge was the two bulging discs in my lower back. The more I lose, the better they feel.

I'm hoping my body acclimates to being smaller though, because right now I'm always cold. Always.

Oh, how I would love to feel cold instead of hot! At least when you're cold you can put on a sweater or coat and/or gloves or wrap a blanket around you. When hot, unless you're inside and can turn the AC down, you can't take clothes off. Well, I guess you could, but you might get arrested or something.

I'm not fat any more but when i was at my biggest, i had trouble scratching my back. Without even being huge (I was 80kg 5/5) I noticed that it was uncomfortable being fat. It must be unbearable to be really big. But like anything, i know people do get used to it and don't realise how almost beautiful one can feel in one's body when slim and even more so when fit as well. This alone is worth losing weight for. If you make it just about appearances you may be disappointed but the feeling of being slim versus obese is highly significant.

A few years ago I knew it was time to lose weight when my stomach got in the way of clipping my toenails. I could still do it but it was extremely uncomfortable.

Ya, I am looking forward to shopping at LL Bean again. Their Plus line for women is extremely limited. My fiance is tall, although I think @DeguelloTex has a few inches on him, and he can just go in to a store, pick up things off the shelf, and know they will fit because they are consistent with their sizing. (That may be truer for their men's line than for women, however.)

 my humble personal experience, plus size clothes are usually so FUGLY! Seriously love my grandma but have cero intention to dress like her.

For me the worst was going to the beach, all my bff are bikini body and I grew up in a caribbean island, so it's not like you can hide behind the "lets wait for the summer", we have summer every single day of the year #facepalm

Booths for sure. Flimsy inexpensive barstools, like the ones in fro yo places. Step ladders and ladders in general...I bought mine because it had a weight limit of 275 lb instead of 225 lb, and I knew it had a better chance of holding up my 300 lb self. It's weird now to be under 170 and not worry about that stuff.

My biggest one though is bath tubs. I am a bath fanatic and I remember staying in a couple of motels and friends' homes where I didn't fit comfortably in the tub. Now every tub feels luxurious.

Zomg how I'd love to take a normal bath..in my current bath I fit, but take up 90% so I can only fill it a few inches or else it floods when get in, lol..i have dreams tho!

The things that I cannot wait to say goodbye to when I lose weight:

    1. Having to ask for the extension for the seat belt on airplanes, and hoping for a window seat so I dont have the arm rest on both sides.
    2. Having to sit in Ballpark/Stadium seats sideways because they are too narrow
    3. Having my clothes take up double the space in my drawers, not because I have so many, but because they are twice the fabric.
    4. Having the soles on my shoes wear out faster. (And not being able to wear boots because they wont fit over my calves)

Even when I weighed 300 pounds, I still was able to fit into things. I was always able to tie my shoes, trim my toenails, etc. I never needed a seatbelt extender or anything like that, so I guess that I can't relate much to this experience.

It is nice to be able to buy clothing in normal sizes, and bouncing up stairs is fun!

I can relate to that experience pretty well too. I had issues with booths and tubs and things around 290-307 which was my heaviest but most of the other issues I never had even then. And at 260 and lower I feel like I seriously did not have any problems moving around or fitting into the world around me. Yes it's easier now after losing another 90 lb, but I can't relate to people who say the world's a big struggle to them at 180 or 200. Not calling them liars. Just can't relate at all given my own experience.
