OK. I learned something today. Cool.0

@starlamarie3 - I think with the stresses of being a new mother now is not the best time in your life to be on a VLC diet but maybe ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian?
Out of curiosity, how many calories does MFP say you should eat to lose 2 pounds per week?0 -

MFP wouldnt let me go below 1000 i beleive, the dietician at the drs office had to tell me how to go in and manually set it up for 800

In that case, definitely report him, as what he is doing (hcg, specifically) is illegal.
i thought it had been legalized? he mentioned my husband being put on it due to the fact that he cant take the phen since his job pops random UA's
What sort of job does your husband have that a prescribed legal weight loss drug like phentermine would be a problem in a drug test?
apparently phent. will show as anphetamine in a UA he is working for halliburton0 -
HCG is illegal in over the counter weight loss products.
http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm281333.htm
HCG is legally prescribed for fertility treatments and treatment for adolescent males to stimulate puberty. Not for weight loss. It is normally administered by injection.
http://www.drugs.com/hcg.html
And a doctor can legally prescribe a drug for off label use. Not that I support the practice with this particular drug, just clarifying the legalities brought up.

No, I meant if you put in your stats here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided what does MFP tell you to eat to lose 2 pounds per week?

I know at industrial sites which very likely will be in an oil town, require extensive drug testing. Anything shows up and the worker is booted off site. I don't blame the husband from being leery.
I'm leery of phentermine anyhow.0 -
You have a newborn and one other child, and you're trying to deal with them (and all your other life stuff) on 800 calories a day and appetite suppressants??
Honey, your doctor is an idiot for letting you do all of that. I don't care how badly you need/want to lose weight -- you have way more important things going on, and you need fuel to be able to deal with them. That type of diet is not appropriate (or safe, or really even sane) for someone in your situation. The BEST case scenario is that it will cause you to binge-eat.0 -

Yes, he would get a false positive for amphetamine but when they do the confirmation analysis, they will see that he is not taking speed. He could also have his phentermine prescription on file. He could talk to HR about this.
I'm not recommending phentermine, just pointing out that taking HCG instead of phentermine because of the drug test is faulty logic.

I agree that you probably don't want to be doing such low calories post-partum. Also, I wanted to share that I had tried phentermine a couple of years ago, under my doctor's supervision, but she didn't recommend the very low calorie diet with it. She also insisted that I come in monthly to make sure it wasn't harming me (blood tests, blood pressure, etc.). In my experience, it did help a little as an appetite suppressant, but not enough to be worth it. If you just stick to a reasonable deficit and find the foods and eating pattern that works best for you, you'll do better than with the phentermine. I've actually lost more without out it than I did in the same time frame with it.0

I had a c-section with my second child (emergency not planned). I wanted to breastfeed but because of the pain meds the doctor suggested I pump for a while first. I was VERY overweight, hell I was obese but my doctor simply told me to pump the milk, eat lots of green foods during this time and and it would help keep my milk flowing and also help with weight. She was right. I also lost 50lbs. I didn't actually get to breast feed for about 3 weeks but I was never offered/told to use a weight loss supplement. Each doctor and their practices are different but I would have been very skeptical of a doc telling me to eat 800 calories after just delivering a baby. I agree with those who say ditch that "diet" as I've only heard bad things about it.0

Is this doctor in the US? If so, I recommend reporting him to the medical board and letting them investigate him.
800 calories a day is not necessarily unhealthy if the patient is obese and it's supervised.0 -

Keep reading. There are several red flags with this one...

OP you had a bad day. It happens to most everyone, no matter what diet plan they are following. Just shake it off and get back to your plan. Discuss and concerns you have with your Dr. not a bunch of unqualified strangers on the internet.0

Some ppl around here seem to believe that 1200 calories is a magic number minimum, and if you go below it all your hair will suddenly fall out.
Two doctors, one GP and a registered dietician both told me the same thing tho. Everyone responds differently to things, some people can easily live on 1000 cals, some people just cant. The dietician told me to keep doin what I was doin (after seeing my logs) and gave me a list of possible side effects to watch out for. She also said that if I feel especially hungry I should eat more that day.
I'm losing weight and feeling better every day so I'm gonna keep trusting her and not angry people on this forum0 -

Why post anything on a forum? It's about sharing opinions and having conversations. My posts only get closed because of angry people who flag anything that questions their belief bubble..but I say, let's get it all out in the open and actually have a productive chat.0 -
No because MFP dont support VLCD and yes people react on your posts...this to show others that this is not a good way to do it....
btw sad thread in this section of the forum again...somebody with hair loss. Very sad...but an example what can happen.
And that is why members here react to try to show it is not needed to lose weight this way.0 -
But again a thread...were i am out
Good luck OP
I hope you succeed and stay healthy

You really don't think that the fact that her doctor prescribed phentermine and an 800 cal diet to someone who recently had a baby, AND is suggesting HCG for her husband because if he takes the phen it will pop positive on his drug screen, is at all concerning?
I'm not saying I'm qualified to give medical advice... I'm saying neither is this doctor.

No no no. I'm sorry to be so harsh but NO! This is INSANE! 1) YOU JUST GAVE BIRTH. You need calories to help you recover from the trauma to your body! 2) You have TWO little ones who need their mommy active and able to do things. 800 calories will NOT give you the energy you need! 3) Look around the forums! Many, MANY people have lost WAY MORE THAN YOU without resorting to EXTREMES! 4) Why do you need to do this so quickly?! You didn't gain all that weight all at once, you certainly aren't going to lose it all at once, either!
If you consider yourself at all a smart lady, you will NOT do this!0 -

Well I wasn't suggesting the OP do what I do. In fact I didn't even state what I do, lol..simply sharing that I trust the professionals over alarmist forum goers.0 -
I believe in taking responsibility for my own health. A Doctor is just an adviser, not the end all, not all knowing. Eating very low calorie for me always results in a binge. As a mother, I say be kind to yourself. You will still lose 2 pounds a week if you eat 400-500 more calories a day. Get out and move, put the kid(s) in a stroller or wagon and walk. Walking will allow you to eat more, lose fat, and elevate your mood. Fresh air is good for the whole family.0

You mean over the RDA? Okay. Keep on with that.0 -
A professional who offers a diet plan that suggests fat-loading before starting the phentermine? That's all woo science and totally unnecessary. Even worse, there's no evidence that there is regular, close checking on how the patient is doing. There should be an after-hours number and a dietitian on call. Heck, a person can faint on a VLCD. Compound this with the report that this doctor specializes in weight loss.

Honey, you need a new doctor.0
