800-cal a day, phen diet

So, reading through this all, it doesn't sound like OP got this plan & prescription from her GP. It sounds like she went to a weight loss clinic. Of course, they prescribe phen or HCG. That's how they get people in and returning. Sadly, just because someone has an MD doesn't mean they are actually qualified to do much more than that (it takes a residency to be even a family practice doctor).
My advice is still to lose this doctor. Go by MFP guidelines, and select a reasonable amount of weight loss. Exercise as you can with two little ones - I know that's not always easy, but maybe even a walk with them in a stroller can relieve the stress and burn some extra calories. You can completely do this without the phen (and husband can do this without the HCG, too).0 -

Some ppl around here seem to believe that 1200 calories is a magic number minimum, and if you go below it all your hair will suddenly fall out.
Two doctors, one GP and a registered dietician both told me the same thing tho. Everyone responds differently to things, some people can easily live on 1000 cals, some people just cant. The dietician told me to keep doin what I was doin (after seeing my logs) and gave me a list of possible side effects to watch out for. She also said that if I feel especially hungry I should eat more that day.
I'm losing weight and feeling better every day so I'm gonna keep trusting her and not angry people on this forum
Did you show your dietician the snapshot of your diary from the earlier thread where a quarter of your calories came from alcohol?
OP. You are struggling and tired because you are not eating enough. You have had major surgery, and a new baby. Eat more, focus on the newborn, youll get there without quick fixes. I'd question any doctor that promoted themselves the way yours seems to.0 -

In that case, definitely report him, as what he is doing (hcg, specifically) is illegal.
1st let me say..Im not promoting anything!! but here is some info and my personal experience (I did a lot of researching on the hcg way back when)
HCG is not illegal. In fact it is used as a fertility drug. Weight loss was found to be a side effect which became a craze. It has been around since the 70's or 80's I believe. It is frowned upon by most Dr,s and dieticians only because of the calorie intake. It is said that it is basically starving ones self and that is the only reason for the weight loss. There hasn't been any studies suggesting that it has negative side effects from anything (at least that I know of in all my hours upon hrs of researching). It is all opinion based. I know a ton of people who have taken it and felt more energy with the low cal intake than any other time.
Most of the Hgc (espec drops) aren't really Hcg but a synthetic version. I live in Florida and there are tons of weight loss clinics that legally treat clients using the hcg program.
I have used it myself (I chose to only do one round because I am focused on building muscle, want to be a workout-aholic, and was leery of the extra skin from loosing so much so fast) and I felt great, energy wise and not hungry, on it. Loosing a total of 37 lbs in 27days.
There is a huge stigma against it but in fact they have a 500 cal plan (which I did and everyone talks about), a 800 cal plan and a 1200 cal plan. I know my body better than any doctor and believe me 500 cals of clean food a day was way better than the 6-7000 cals I was eating a day before doing it. I can say that the hcg forced me to eat clean, healthy low cal, unprocessed foods. I still to this day eat pretty much the same things as on the plan.. except I eat roughly 1400 cals a day, but I also workout and burn the majority of that. I actually have to force feed myself on workout days to even come close to that intake.
If you really think about the plan its really just a extended detox with clean eating. And just like regular dieting.. the moment you start replacing good food with bad foods.. you will gain weight.
It just drives me nuts that everyone acts like its the plague and never experienced it. Everyone has what works for them. That doesn't mean its wrong way.
oh brother:( This maybe your experience but is no way good advice for anyone. OP don't listen to this.
Seconded. A lot of it is broscience and untrue.0 -
Dear Members,
I'm writing to let you know that our Community Guidelines ( http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/guidelines ) prohibit the creation of any forum posts, groups, or posts in groups that encourage the use of Very Low Calorie diets (including, but not limited to, VLCDs that use the HCG protocol).
MyFitnessPal has always promoted a healthy, sustainable, and gradual path to weight loss. But HCG products are typically promoted in connection with a very low calorie diet, usually one that limits calories to 500 per day. Research has demonstrated that calorie intake at these levels can lead to increased risk of gallstones, hair loss, constipation, an irregular heartbeat, and many other dangerous side-effects.
Moreover, numerous medical studies have shown that the results of HCG-use in combination with a very low calorie diet are indistinguishable from the results of the low calorie diet alone. In light of this research, the FDA has required the labeling and advertising of HCG products to state:
“HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.”
Our guidelines prohibit any use of Groups or the Public Forums to support the use of HCG.
Regards,
Adam, MyFitnessPal Moderator0
