Clothing that no longer fits

yeah I might check out some consignment or thrift stores. I also get coupons for Kohl's and the outlet stores, I do well there too.0

I was down 30-40lbs when I started replacing a couple of friends kept hounding me to get better fitting clothes. Lol. I give the oldies to goodwill and buy most of my new ones there too. I'm still in transition do only but retail when there is something specific I need that I can't find at GW. I work from home so st least I don't need a full professional wardrobe. Today I tried on 4 pair of size 16 jeans and all fit perfectly! I bought 2 and both were on the pink tag 50% off sale. I used to be 3x in pants, and not all fit me. That's a huge change in 15 months. It's been about 20 years since I was this size!!!
PS If you've never tried goodwill or value village check them out. Most clothes are in good to excellent condition including some that are new close outs from retail stores. It's a cost effective way to update your wardrobe especially when you're going to be in a size for only a few months. Oh, I also buy almost all my workout clothes there, dri fit fabric to boot, for only a few $.0 -
I keep clothes two sizes larger than what i am now. Any bigger than that are recycled. So im a 34 now and have 36&38 but donated my 40&42 inch pants and shorts0

I get rid of all of mine right away. I can't stand to have them around. I ship them off to thredup.com to get cash money for them. Then I buy some new ones from thredup!!0

Once they are no longer wearable, I get rid of them. I've sold some of the expensive pieces on Facebook, but have donated 99% of my old wardrobe.0

Seems like almost every weekend lately I'm taking a few items down to the local goodwill store, feels good to get rid of the bigger clothing when newer, smaller items fit well (and look better!). I hang on to business suits a little longer even if I don't wear them anymore, since they tend to be expensive - I'm sure I'll donate those eventually too.0

I got rid of all of the old clothes in sizes that I never want to be ever again. I am having a harder time getting rid of some of the nice clothes that are in a size that I was just trying to get back down to - but now am several sizes smaller. I seemed to almost skip right over that size. I have boxed some of the suits and classic pieces and gotten them out of my closet and donated everything that was trendy or unlikely to be worn again. I am still adjusting to my much smaller size and am not sure if it will last long term.0

TamLam99,
I am like you. I keep wearing the large clothes. I can literally take my pants off without unbuttoning or unzipping them. I am wearing tops that cover up the belts that are keeping up my pants that are bunched up at my waist.
Luckily, I have finally found a new job and start tomorrow. I will reserve some of my first paycheck for some new clothes.
I have lost 62 lbs. (25 before MFP, and 37 in the last year with MFP)

LOL - I can do the same thing with my pants, they slide right down buttoned and zipped. I've resorted to rolling the waistband which helps a little.0

I am down several sizes now, getting rid of the ones that fall off or are too bunched up to be comfortable with a belt. I won't start replacing much until I have nothing left in my closet to wear. Looking forward to shopping for a size with more than a couple choices of style.0

I started getting rid of a few things at about 25 lbs. Now at 34 I did a major clean out. I had my 19 year old daughter who is brutally honest come in my room and help me go through all my clothes, even stuff under the bed. (out of season stuff). I have a ton to get rid of. Then today we went down in the basement and went through a lot of totes of everyone's clothes. It feels great to clean it out. For those of you who are wearing way too big of clothes, you will probably feel a lot better in something the right size. Good will, or thrift stores are great. I even found a thrift store near me that had 1 dollar everything for awhile, even coats. I sometimes ask a friend who I think might be able to use some of it, or someone from church, or donate, yard sale is great too.
A way to make sure you don't gain it back, don't stop, get into the maintenence part and make it a lifestyle.

I have phased between keeping the bigger sizes for the "just in case" scenario and it didn't end well.....the larger sizes fooled me into thinking I was doing well when in fact I was slowly but surely getting back up in weight. After learning this was a problem and starting again, I decided to ditch the clothes as soon as possible.
I've always donated my stuff, those that still had life in them of course.....sometimes that wasn't the case so sadly they went in the garbage.
I have become a lot more discerning as I have progressed down.....fist out of the box was almost an insane amount of clothes buying - because Wow there were now clothes that were available and styles were almost infinite.
It has taken me a while and more than a few mistakes along the way to develop MY style - I'm 52 and while I 'can' fit into younger ladies clothing I have learned to embrace the new me and work with not against my age. So I have invested in tailored trousers, blazers, skirts and shirts - All bespoke for me and they were worth every penny.
The rest of the time I spend a lot of time trawling through our local Op shop that luckily for me is the repository of some real gems in designer wear, clearance items that haven't sold in stores all sourced around the State and only sold from this one shop.0 -

I threw out anything bigger than my exact size, which was fine for a long time, until I found myself with an extra 15 pounds after injuries. Then, I had to replace my whole wardrobe (not for the first time). Which I didn't want to do, because I didn't intend to hang out at the 15+lbs weight for long. I say hang on to one size up just in case. Box it and store it so you're not looking at it every day, but at least you'll have it if needed. That's a few hundred bucks saved. (I just got the bare minimum required to cover myself in a limited range of situations. Still would rather not have had to buy it)0

im down 176lb so ive gone thru ALOT of clothing sizes
i sold alot in the beginning on ebay as i had to buy them thru a catalogue and it had cost me a small fortune which im still paying off so i needed some of the capitol back to pay that bill down. seriously a "nice" dress for my sisters wedding cost me £100 from them and i wore it once
i gave several dresses to a friend of mine, she knows the pain of finding appropriate dresses in bigger sizes
ive also donated bags and bags of things to charity stores and salvation army as i had boxes of trousers and tops in my wardrobe ....... ive worn nothing but dresses for the last 5 years
my clothing currently stretches from uk size 12 - uk size 18. some stuff is a bit big but good for fat days and in case of up to a stone weight gain and other stuff is currently too small but i hope to fit it one day
for my birthday and christmas i tend to be given a voucher for the local mall and i then shop the end of season sales for new clothes at a fraction of the cost0 -
WOW - you guys are all so amazing with your huge weight losses.
We are clothing a lot of people with our old stuff.0 -
I have a *lot* of clothes in the range of 6-10 (UK sizes) which I kept even if I never thought I'd fit into them again. I'm glad I kept them as I plan to fit into most of them by the end of the year, but I have a lot more pairs of River Island jeans than I remember.
Bigger clothes? Heck yeah. Bar a few comfy things I'll be glad to see the back of them as there's no chance in hell I'm gaining that much weight again.0 -
So far I'm down 28lb and haven't gotten rid of anything. My pants are big, but not so big that a belt won't hide it. I don't wear dress clothes to work (jeans and polo shirt most of the time), so they don't look huge, just loser.
I have another 17lb to lose. Once I get down there I will start buying new clothes and slowly either donating or selling old clothes as replacements are bought. My jeans will probably be the first to go.0 -
I mentioned at work what sizes I had and I had 2 takers immediately for their family members both were single mom's. I packed up each of them 2 garbage bags full of clothes. I waited til I was comfortably in the smaller size I haven't replaced all my clothes yet. My thought was if I didn't have the fat clothes there was no going back. I still have a ways to go and I can live with less til I get to my goal.0
