I remember the song well! Loved it. But if it is an example of their music, not surprising they didn’t stay around. One of that type song is enough. Lol.1

Correct. Your turn.0 -
First recorded on the b side in 1949. Has been covered many, many times. Mostly country, several pop, and even one football star. Was in the billboard top 100 several times, making the pop top 10 in 1966. The original recording made the top 100 country in both 1949 and again in 1966.
Some question about who wrote it.0 -

Correct. Your turn.
And yet he has been married 5 times and had a couple of long term relationships. Sounds like he’s an expert on giving up.0 -

Some question about who wrote it.
I did a quick search and may have found the answer. Not sure who the football player might have been.
Is it Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer?0 -
The singer died when his son, who shared his name, was just a toddler. The son became famous too. First for impersonating his father and singing his fathers songs, later for singing his own songs and being himself. Jr. won a Grammy with his own song in 88, another for a collaboration with his dad (who had been dead over 30 years) in 89.
The football quarterback was Terry Bradshaw. (And I’m not surprised you didn’t think of him. Probably never heard his recordings, and that might be a good thing!)0 -
Good clues. I had a good theory about the artist and then Terry Bradshaw confirmed it.
