Oh man. I like Jim Stafford too. He did a great Classical Gas. Look it up on YouTube.

    Gerry Rafferty/Baker Street

    Greatest sax solo...next to Jungleland!

I bought this LP, City to City, back in the day. Basically bought it for the song, Baker Street. On first listen, I was unimpressed with the rest of the record, except for the other hit, Right Down The Line. Then one day, I wanted to listen to something "new". I gave the record another spin. I felt like I had discovered gold. The whole album was great. It led me to buying his next LP, Night Owl (another good album), as well as some of his past records.

I've heard the sax solo was recorded completely separately, in another location. And the person playing it always hated it because it was off pitch somehow. I think he said it was a bit flat. I don't hear it that way.

This article says the sax soloist was paid 27.50 for his work. It's a good read.

It's one of the shortest top 40 songs I think I've ever heard.

The apple isn't a 'delicious' or 'tender crips' or 'granny smith'. I could have used Livingston Seagull instead.

    Go ahead @DifferentView

I never heard of that kind of apple, or the actor. Never watched either of the two shows. But, I actually did guess the correct song and artist, just from the “light from our star” clue. I remember hearing the song was a message to President Nixon, about the Vietnam war. Good song!

Four Seasons is correct for the first artist.
    One more artist.
And then the name of the song(s) with similar title
