You got all the words right, just one Promises
You're up!
(eta:) I went and listened to Promises, Promises - Naked Eyes. I'd never heard that song, or of them.0 -

That's about the only Naked Eyes song I can name I think.

My first big concert I went to was this guy, Ambrosia, and Foreigner at the UNI Dome. Awesome, especially for a 16 year old.
Our guy's album was self titled.
Ambrosia's album was Life Beyond LA.
Foreigner's album was Double Vision.0 -
In 1982 I saw Foreigner, Loverboy, .38 Special, Quarterflash & Triumph in the World Series of Rock at the old Milwaukee County Stadium.0
-
No idea. I keep wanting to say Billy Joel, but... Piano Man messes up 'new' artist. Also, not self titled.0

I guess I'm going by his Wikipedia page. Maybe that's not safe. As I recall he won 7 Grammy Awards for that debut album, but WP says 5. When I look on Grammy.com it says 1981.
In my defense, the album did come out in 1979 and that's when I saw them. The Grammy Awards were on February 25, 1981 Radio City Music Hall, New York, but the eligibility was for a period of 1979 and 1980.
Eligibility Year: Oct. 1, 1979, Through Sept. 30, 1980

I'll fill in the blank and open it up.
Christopher Cross (born Christopher Charles Geppert; May 3, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter from San Antonio, Texas. His debut album earned him five Grammy Awards. He is perhaps best known for his US Top Ten hit songs, "Ride Like the Wind", "Sailing", and "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)", the latter recorded by him for the film Arthur starring Dudley Moore. "Sailing" earned three Grammys in 1981, while "Arthur's Theme" won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1981 (with co-composers Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen).0 -
Good album, definitely reminds me of my early high school years.
I don't have one right now.

Yeah! My husband even got that one right.
OK....Seattle grunge meets Leadbelly blues = artist/song, please
The actual song is much older, but Leadbelly is famous for it ;-)0 -
Ha! I just gave my husband my clues and he had no idea, even after I gave him the answer: "there's a parade scene?"
Doh! Did I really marry this man??
But I have limited knowledge of grunge...0 -
Laughing so hard!
I'm not a grunge follower, either. Just a good song.
Actually, my son shared it with me years ago! He was a fan.0 -
Ferris Bueller only took a minute. I'll be worthless on Grunge though.0

Nirvana's cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" by Leadbelly is what @Mustang_Susie is looking for I think.
Also known as "In the Pines" when bluegrass guys do it.
I'll be out of office for the day though so if I'm correct someone else can start a new one...0 -
Yes, "Where did you sleep last night" is correct.
My Grandpa Fox, Kentucky born & raised banjo player, always called it "In the pines".

Dorothy's dog + the dark continent = [band/song]0 -
Toto "Africa"
@deckerp I'm assuming I'm correct..so I'll throw out:
Solo artist...
First Name= Not Tom or Dick
Last Name= It makes the sound of Liberty (or faux Mexican food) + that monosyllabic noise speakers often make when they don't know what to say + French way to say "Fountain" + fifth letter in
Song = Vertical movement in the 180 degree fashion0 -
Harry Fontaine or Belafonte
No clue on the song0 -
TOTO / Africa (rains down in)
