Hi my name is Nikki and I battle with weight loss. I have tried everything from counting calories to weight loss pills. I feel so defeated and I workout hard. Today I have decided to take control and won this battle. I am back counting my calories to make sure I am eating enough food and also keeping me accountable of what I am eating.

Weight loss is at its core, a mathematical equation. The body burns a certain amount of calories at rest ... an additional factor of that number for basic daily activities ... then another number on top of that total from exercise. Eat at a sensible deficit from the total of those burns, and you will safely and consistently lose weight.

    Hi Nicole!

From your post it seems as if you were working out but not tracking calories? That could be the problem if so. If you have truly tried everything and given it time to work, go to the doctor. Have them test you for PCOS. I have had a few friends that were undiagnosed for it and once they started treating it, they lost weight. If you don't have PCOS get a dietitian.

I'm sending you much support! Hang in there!

Eat at a sensible calorie deficit and tell yourself you will succeed and I PROMISE you will :)
Ditch those weight loss pills and trust in the process - track your food, don't restrict but most importantly - stay strong! You can do this.

I too feel your pain..., the struggle is o-so real!!! Hang in there, and pick yourself up when you fall. You're never a failure until you fail to try.
    Keep smiling

You struggle because you are not ready to change your approach. You want to lose weight without doing anything differently than you have always done. Flow happens when you make the decision to change.

    Process of transformation:

Precontemplation - you are not thinking about change
Contemplation - you are thinking about changing
Preparation - you may do a few things to attempt change
Practice - You have been working on changing for up to six months
Maintenance - You have new habits (but may revert to the previous levels at times)

    Flow

+1 is sensible advice but its far from the whole picture. Please read my latest blog post called The Fundamentals of long term weightloss.

My blog is called Almost Vegan if you are doing a search for it otherwise you can see it in my newsfeed.

But you yourself also have to find the answers from within. You may not be able to interpret or correctly analyse your results but the thing is you do need to look back at your past, see what worked and why you failed. If you address the reason for the failure, it will probably happen again.

You shouldn't have to work out to exhaustion. Exercise is for health; eating right is usually the most important for weight loss.

Weight loss/management is in its core a very simple process, just calories in/out. Pills have no effect. Counting calories is an effective method, if you do it right.

Even though eating less and moving more is a simple concept, it's not always easy to accomplish in our modern environment. Find out what makes it a struggle for you, and look for ways to make those things easier.

These things have been good for me: portion control (MFP food diary), meals, no calories between meals, mindful eating, getting better sleep, stress management, education, cooking a balanced and varied diet of whole foods from every food group every day, not keeping trigger foods at home, finding "excuses" to walk more during the day.

Yes it's simple--calories in and out as stated above. Once you have your daily calorie goal from MFP, try and stay within them every day. By a digital scale and weigh and measure everything you eat. This can be difficult for some in the beginning, but keep at it, it's important for success. It sounds as if you excersise alot. Log it in your exercise diary everyday and you will get more calories to eat. Careful that you don't overestimate your burns. Weigh yourself once a week, always on the same day at the same time. Take your measurements, and some take pictures, since sooner or later everyone gets discouraged, and you can look at your progress that way. These are the basics. Do all this for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. Welcome to MFP. B)
