What are you saying nope for? If OP considers herself to be detoxing then it is detoxing.
So all I have to do is believe something to be true in order for it to be true?
Bye Alyssa. We don't communicate.
So all I have to do is believe something to be true in order for it to be true? I'm also curious.
No. But it's a tangential discussion to the post. I'll shoot you a PM if you want.0 -

No, I think it's quite relevant. Conventional wisdom says eating 12 bananas a day won't detox anything. I (and it seems others here) would like to understand the process by which such a diet would work simply through belief. Wait. Is it The Secret?

She's eating bananas for 21 days, not for the rest of her life. Besides, 12 bananas is better than a lot of the processed "foods" (if you want to call it that) that people eat so what's the harm?0

This is not relevant really...our debate about what I think has nothing to do with what the OP thinks. I don't know the OP.
I'm not saying detoxing works by belief. I never said I believe in eating only bananas as detoxing...I know nothing about it. If you read through the entire thread you will see where I posted that. But if she calls what she's doing detoxing, I'm not going to debate with her about what she should call it. She's obviously made up her mind.
I'm just not into debating...don't dig.0 -

Not getting essential nutrients for almost a month? Failing miserably and triggering an epic binge?
I personally don't care if OP eats 21 bananas a day or 21 rolls of duct tape a day. Just trying to save the OP a little trouble by pointing out that it isn't going to work.0 -

Good point..,hadn't thought of it that way.

But you wrote, emhunter wrote:If OP considers herself to be detoxing then it is detoxing.
So, if she thinks she's detoxing, she's detoxing, even if we don't think she's detoxing. Do you think she's detoxing? If you think she's detoxing and she thinks she's detoxing but I think she's not detoxing, does that mean she's detoxing because the majority thinks she is detoxing? If you don't think she's detoxing and I don't think she's detoxing, but she thinks she's detoxing, does our disbelief in her detoxification override her belief in her detox, which would mean she's not detoxing? Or, since she knows herself, does her belief that she is detoxing count more than our composite disbelief in her detoxing? How many disbelievers in her detoxing would it take to outweigh her belief in the detoxing process?0 -

What's the harm? Well, for starters, 12 126g bananas is only 1260 calories, and she also plans to work out while on this diet... that is not enough calories for her current weight and size. Secondly, 12 126g bananas is over 5000mg of potassium, approximately triple the RDA. They also only have a total of 16g of protein, but 168g of sugar.
Still sound like a good idea?0 -

I answered the question already. She can believe whatever she wants. I'm not trying to stop her. This fake debate is done.

Are we really turning into a site where someome proposes a preposterous idea like eating nothing but 12 bananas a day because they want to detox and everyone is supposed to just chime in and say, "good for you, go girl, you got this" with no regard for whether there is any scientific merit to what the OP is suggesting?0

She would be getting about 12 grams of protein and 0 fat a day. That would continue for 3 weeks.0 -
People don't want to be mothered all the time. Sometimes people just want to post without hearing everyone's mouth telling them why they shouldn't do something. If it's not illegal or going to cause imminent harm, I feel they should be left alone. Unsolicited advice is not always welcome.
I am not going to debate this thread. OP good luck with whatever you decide!
Well then, they shouldn't post on a public forum if they don't want the opinion of the internet. Problem solved. And despite what you feel we should do, we don't have to listen to you and just leave this piss poor idea alone for someone else to stumble upon and think it's an awesome idea, because it's not.WinoGelato wrote: »Are we really turning into a site where someome proposes a preposterous idea like eating nothing but 12 bananas a day because they want to detox and everyone is supposed to just chime in and say, "good for you, go girl, you got this" with no regard for whether there is any scientific merit to what the OP is suggesting?
I think a dietician would lose their damn mind over this sort of tomfoolery, and yet here we are. :noway:0 -

Juicing is used to detox. Check out the Gerson Institute. They use juicing to detox the body and pretty much rid the body of cancer. True story.

That is a dangerous and irresponsible claim to throw out there.0 -

Probably not what they would provide, but:

Edited to add: And this is an example of why not speaking up when someone claims detoxing can cure stuff is irresponsible:

Honestly who started this reset my system nonsense it's so irritating. I was obese I didn't want to be anymore so I started to cut down my intake and started to exercise. I lost weight, I no longer get heart burn all the time I feel strong and healthy.
OP stop making this process more complicated than necessary0 -

The Gerson Institute? You're joking, right? Because Gerson is a fraud and a quack who's done INFINITELY more harm than good. No. No. 1000 times no. Not true story. At all. Unbelievable.
Proof? Sorry, couldn't resist. And you think chemo has a better success rate? Please.0 -

Thread has run it's course. Understand that it's fine to debate helpful/unhelpful information CORDIALLY, but lately there's a lot of flamebaiting, trolling and flat out disrespect between certain members. Hijacking, flamebaiting, trolling etc. isn't going to be tolerated much anymore and the violators will be warned.0
