Thanks for sharing the article, very interesting. I do 6 sets of 3 reps for strength, if I can complete that formula 3 sessions in a row successfully for the same exercise then I increase the weight 10% to a maximum of 10 lbs. I've never tried a 1 rep max as I usually work out on my own & would rather be safe than sorry. This formula seems to work well for me.

You women are crazy. Multiple sets at 90%+ would destroy me. Thanks MFP, I learn new stuff here all the time.

That advice for women to do 5x3 when they stall on 3x5 is in starting strength, at least the most recent edition. He doesn't go into it much but his article on t-nation basically plagerizes his book. So it's not really new info...he's just pulled it out instead of it being buried in text.

Did he mention the "too bad you can't progress as fast as men, we can't have a multiple orgasm," that is in SS? I found that quite irritating!

I don't think it's possible to plagiarize one's own work. My copy of SS is on Kindle and not indexed so I can't search it easily. I looked through it yesterday and couldn't find anything getting into % s for women vs men, which is what I found most interesting about the article.

As for the multiple orgasm thing, I know I've seen Lyle McDonald mention the same thing when discussing the water retention issues that some women deal with while losing weight. It just made me laugh and I think of it every time a "my husband loses weight faster than me" thread is posted.

Meh. You get used to it. You might swear at your programmer a couple times, at least in your head but you do it. Done and seen it done multiple times, by both guys and girls.

You can plagiarize your own work - at least in academia...journals will reject you if you don't reference yourself. It's a ridiculous world. I have the newest edition of starting strength and he does have the same info in it so maybe it's an edition issue or maybe I'm confusing that with Practical programming for strength training which had an entire chapter on women...
