I usually have one pint of beer (half a litre) after work. Does alcohol sabotage your weight loss?

I usually have a drink a day. Sometimes a beer, sometimes wine, sometimes a cocktail. It doesn't sabotage me because I make room for it in my calories. Cheers!0

I have a beer most nights. When I have 1 and fit it in my calories I don't sabotage myself. When I don't stop at one the ish hits the fan0

Beer gets stored as fat most of the in you lower belly hence it's called "beer belly." You should try to avoid as much as you can. I stopped drinking sugary drinks and got better results when I drank them0

It'll only get stored as fat if the beer is putting you in to a caloric excess.0 -

It's fine. Just don't go over your calories. I try to work in a drink most days, but I usually prefer an ounce of whiskey, since it's easier to work in (unless I got for one my cask strength bottles, some of those clock in at 100 calories per ounce).
@IconStillFree False. Just utterly, and completely false.0 -
I found that cutting out drinking beer has sped up my weight loss significantly.
1) I can't have one beer
2) I can't resist bar food
3) I don't have confidence in MFP's beer nutrition entries0 -
I drink at least once every few days, usually a beer or two. I just account for it those days and consume less calories in other areas.0
-
Not beer but wine. I have 8 ounces a night. Sometimes 5. Sometimes 10. But I have it only if it fits in my calorie goal. I've lost 17 pounds since July and am 5 pounds from my goal. I've been losing at the rate I wanted, too.0

I save enough calories for a beer or ice cream every night. Doesn't slow down my weight loss.0

I cut back from a pint after work to 330ml, and now have it about every other day, and I also sometimes have a pint with lunch at work. I log it and fit it in with my calories and still lose weight. It does mean I have to be more careful with everything else I eat that day, but it's worth it. Sustaining a no beer diet for months would be misery for me and I wouldn't stick to it.

Man, I wish I had a job where I could drink on my lunch break!0 -
I have a beer and a wine almost every night. I haven't gone over my calorie limit once since I started 6 months ago, and I've lost 21 kg.
I do a fair bit of walking.0 -
beer always makes me go over, but I am always in a deficit so I don't feel too horrible0

It stops you from burning fat. For 48-72 hours. In YOUR case, you'll NEVER burn fat, just sugar.0
-
If it's logged and you are within your calorie allowance, there is absolutely no reason why this should effect your weight loss!0

What's stopping you? You just need some work colleagues who are up for having lunch out somewhere that serves beer.0 -

I'm currently working in the medical ICU... I don't think they'd be too happy.0 -

sorry to hear it - I should also have added you need a boss who doesn't notice/mind. :-)

I have successfully lost weight with and without it. As others say, if you make room in your daily calories, it should be fine.
Recently, I've cut most beer out . . . it has more to do with the way I feel, and my exercise goals. I feel more energetic and less sluggish mornings after I don't drink.
One of my big challenges with beer is that one turns into two, and then I start snacking. Also, there are days when I have calories left after exercise, and am not very hungry. Adding a beer for me serves basically as a "filler" for that extra deficit I worked for, which could have otherwise contributed to weight loss.0 -

opinion: do not use it for weight loss
the article says:
"It’s not necessarily beer but too many calories that can turn your trim waistline into a belly that protrudes over your pants. Any kind of calories -- whether from alcohol, sugary beverages, or oversized portions of food -- can increase belly fat. However, alcohol does seem to have a particular association with fat in the midsection.
"In general, alcohol intake is associated with bigger waists, because when you drink alcohol, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat," says Michael Jensen, MD, an endocrine expert and obesity researcher with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Beer also gets the blame because alcohol calories are so easy to overdo. A typical beer has 150 calories – and if you down several in one sitting, you can end up with serious calorie overload.
And don’t forget calories from the foods you wash down with those beers. Alcohol can increase your appetite. Further, when you're drinking beer at a bar or party, the food on hand is often fattening fare like pizza, wings, and other fried foods."
But when you eat fat or carbs, the body burns those instead of body fat, so not sure there's any real difference.

Bingo! If I've had one, I've had three. Next thing I know, I've had six while watching a ballgame. Then the munchies kick in. So I try to avoid it as much as possible. But when I do have one, it fits within my calories.0 -

Beer is, in my opinion, some of the most useless calorie consumption ever for anyone watching their weight! It's full of sugars and, as if that's not enough, your body converts the yeast to MORE sugar! Yeh. Just what a weight watcher needs ... more sugar! Beer provides zero energy, wrecks your metabolism, and adds more empty calories. What's the point?
Every now and then, on a weekend, I might tip a pint or a glass or two of wine. I don't count calories on weekends, I have enough stress all weeklong and weekends are for my "detox" from the work week. But... beer every day????? Even every other day seems excessive.0 -

Alcohol in an of itself does not hurt you, however it will slow your metabolism. you just have to be aware of that. Nothing wrong with having a drink.0

Not if it doesn't put you over your calories and you're not drinking to excess. As most of us have said, we work in about one drink a day. I was tired last night so I didn't have my usual drink. Oh well.0 -
If my calories allow it I'd probably have a beer about 4 times a week.0
