20 pounds. Losing fast just means your body will want to eat it back, which is why Im back here.

Why do you need to lose that much weight in a month?

Well I lost 12lb in a month before just by watching my calories and daily cardio exercise, just wondering if I could get to a 14lb loss next month. There is good reason

I lost 13 in the last month but when I first started I lost more but it is not a good idea to lose really fast. When I lost really fast I put it back on very quickly then lost and gained the same 10 pounds over and over.

22lbs last month!! I think it was all water weight though since I had been eating nothing but high sodium foods and I just looked really swollen. Then I was able to quit drinking pop and eating fast food. :) I look and feel so much better now... I was 190 at 4'11.

Unless you are obese, losing that much in a month likely will not happen.

I lost about that much a month when I was morbidly obese (rate continued for about 4 months). This was before I was tracking things here and I'm pretty sure if I had been logging my intake, it would have proved to be way to low. I did end up gaining some of that weight back, because I wasn't able to sustain what I was doing and it led to a binge.
When I started with MFP, I lost about 12 lbs a month for 2 months. I wasn't trying for that. I was aiming for 1 lb per week loss and eating back exercise calories. However, I was again still obese at the time. The rate of loss didn't last and it eventually tapered off to where it is now (0.5 lbs per week) as I lost weight.

If your only looking to lose 36 lbs, then aim for 1-2 lbs per week. That should be doable, healthy and completely safe for you to do. Don't rush things. It takes patience.

I lost about 13 pounds my first month. BUT I had 99 pounds to lose. The more you have to lose the bigger the drop can be at first and still be safe and sustainable.

This one time I had giardia and probably lost 30 lbs in one month before they realized I wasn't just being a bulimic teen or something and meant it when I said I didn't feel good.

The month my gall bladder was removed I lost about 20 lbs because I couldn't eat anything without level 10 pain.

But I wouldn't recommend parasites or organ failure as weight loss plans.

Your ticker shows you have 36 pounds to lose. It is not a reasonable expectation to lose 14lbs of fat in one month. And I really doubt there is a good reason; if it was such an important deadline for you weight, you would have started earlier.

Again unless you are morbidly obese that rate of loss isn't healthy. NIH considers safe/healthy weight loss to be 1-2 lbs per week. To lose that much you would need a 1750 calorie deficit everyday. If you only have 36 lbs to lose there isn't a way to do that without resorting to things that are unhealthy and could potentially cause harm to you.
Sometimes those who are morbidly obese can achieve it without actually trying to do so. People often will see a larger than normal loss in their first month because of the initial water weight loss, but it doesn't continue past that.

Well that's odd because your first post didn't ask for tips at all.

My tips: enter your stats into MFP, be reasonable with your expectations, log accurately, exercise according to your fitness level, and have patience.

Tip: Don't be disappointed because weight loss is not linear. Your first month was most likely water weight and some fat. Your weight loss will slow down.

I think I lost 15 the first month, the first 6 in the first week, attributed mostly to water. It's been about 10 a month until I got down to about 150, now it's slowed to about 3 a month. I'm almost to my goal, so it's harder to gain a large deficit without either starving or killing myself on my treadmill, neither of which are what I want to do.

I'm not morbidly obese, and I didn't do anything drastic just watched my calories and done a cardio fitness DVD daily.

I don't think you're going to find any tips here for keeping up a fast rate of weight loss. Everyone's losses are bigger in the beginning, but it does slow down.

Would it be possible for you to do? Maybe. But if you manage it I think it's fairly safe to say that you're going to end up feeling like crap due to chronic under eating. And it will come back.

This is arsey? It's simply describing the measures one generally takes when they're dead set on dropping weight at an unsafe/unhealthy rate.

When most people begin a weight loss journey they first must deplete glycogen stores along with fat and a little muscle. When you deplete glycogen stores a great deal of water is released with it. A 5-6 lbs loss of water that accompanied that glycogen. This will not be repeatable unless you build up those stores and the accompanying water. So you would have to gain it first to lose it again. We do that usually on a smaller scale, all along, it is why weight loss is not linear. However the most fat you can expect to lose in a healthy manner is 1% of your total weight a week maximum. Anything over 1% is most likely water or lean body mass. Losing lean body mass is detrimental in the long run because it will lower your energy, strength, metabolism, resistance to illness. In the extreme cases, lean body mass loss, will cause damage to your vital organs which are muscles.

Then why don't we start over. What are your stats: height, current weight, goal weight, and activity level. If you give us more information people can give you better advice as to what you can reasonably expect to lose.

Also, what calorie goal does MFP have you set at? Are you eating to that goal? Weighing and measuring your food? Eating back some of your exercise calories

About 5 years ago I lost 25 pounds in about a month. Although it was because I had Valley Fever pneumonia, and nearly died. After I was released from the hospital I did gain it back.

In addition to the information up post to answer your original question. After the initial losses of water, I lost on average of 2 lbs a week until I was under 190 pounds, after that point I have continued to lose at 1.9 - 1.8 lbs a week. I am currently at 181 and losing at about 1.7 lbs a week.

Medical reasons are great motivation for weight loss. If you are concerned about your health, trying to lose quickly could do more harm than good. Extreme weight loss (greater than 1-2lbs a week) should not be attempted unless under closely monitored medical supervision. You are not anywhere near the weight where that would be medically necessary. Set reasonable goal of .5 to 1 lb a week and you will get there in a healthy, sustainable manner.

Alright so using this calculator, I came up with this:

    Sedentary TDEE = 1718
    1-3 hrs/wk light exercise = 1969
    3-5 hrs/wk moderate exercise = 2219
    5-6 hrs/wk strenuous exercise = 2470
    7-21 hrs/wk strenuous exercise/active job = 2720
    http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/

So what to expect weight loss wise:
Sedentary TDEE = 1 lb per week at most (1200 calories per day consumed)
1-3 hrs/wk light exercise = 1.58 lbs at most (1200 calories per day consumed)
3-5 hrs/wk moderate exercise = 2 lbs at most (1219 calories per day consumed)
5-6 hrs/wk strenuous exercise = 2 lbs at most (1470 calories per day consumed)
7-21 hrs/wk strenuous exercise/active job = 2 lbs at most (1720 calories per day consumed)

You shouldn't aim for more than 1000 calorie deficit. To minimize muscle loss it is suggested to aim for no more than 1% of your body weight. In your case that would be 1.67 lbs per week.

The only tip I can offer is to have more realistic expectations of healthy and sustainable weight loss.

Your first month had a bunch of water weight in it. The second month will not.

    She's right you know
